Tradewind are recruiting for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant!Can you build strong relationships with pupils quicklyAre you a natural when it comes to working with young people from challenging backgroundsWe are recruiting for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible on a full time basis at a secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Rochdale.To join us and be successful in this SEMH Teaching Assistant role, you will need to:

• Have an enhanced DBS certificate (or be happy to apply for a new one), Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional references checks.
• Provide a CV with at least 10 years employment/education history included and any employment breaks must be explained.
• Have the legal right to work in the UK.
• Have some experience support children or young adults from vulnerable backgrounds and with challenging behaviours.

Youth Worker, Residential Support Worker, Care Worker & Sports Coach candidates will be considered as well as those with prior Teaching Assistant experience. The most important thing is to be able to evidence your ability to support young people with Social,Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH).About the role:

• SEMH Teaching Assistant at a Secondary PRU in Rochdale.
• Starting ASAP on a full time & long term basis, paying up to £80/day.
• Your role will be to maintain good behaviour in class and around the site in order for young people to make social and emotional progress as well as facilitate an excellent learning environment
• You must be able to build relationships quickly.
• You will need to be resilient, empathetic, patient and not take things too personally.
• You will need to be able to demonstrate correct behaviour and act as positive and trusted role model.
• You will be required to work with the teaching staff to monitor behaviour, recognise triggers and prevent crisis situations from occurring.

About the school:

• Secondary PRU catering for young people with SEMH and challenging behaviours.
• Class sizes of no more than 10 pupils.
• Broad curriculum based on childrens needs and interests including ASDAN vocational learning lessons.
• Strong focus on helping pupils manage their emotions and behaviour in order to prepare them for learning and the world after education.
• Links with local colleges and employers to ensure transitions to study or apprenticeships.

About the pupils:

• All pupils are aged 11-16 and have an EHCP for SEMH, ADHD, Autism& challenging behaviour.
• Many are from very vulnerable backgrounds and need support from a Behaviour Mentor that are patient, empathetic and engaging.
• Pupils are working at lower than expected levels for their age and so your approach and support will need to reflect what stage they are working at and focus on areas where progress can be made whether thats emotionally, socially, behaviourally or academically.
