Job Description

The role:The role of Research and Development Polymer Technologist is based at our site in Ripley and is a full time role (36.5 hours per week Monday to Friday). In this role you will carry out all aspects of Flotex Research & Development. This includes PVC related raw material evaluation, production support, guidance and problem solving and new product development or process innovations. This exciting role will see you lead cross functional project teams delivering new product and system innovations, raw material changes and process efficiency projects. You’ll be forever learning new things and taking ideas, running with them, creating prototypes and developing them through to real-world trials.Key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Knowledge of R&D related to our product, including understanding PVC technologies, properties of different raw materials and safe working practices for laboratory and factory environments.
  • Safe laboratory practice and safe operation of laboratory and pilot line equipment whilst understanding general laboratory working practices
  • Production support. In this position you will fully understand the production processes, understand how raw materials react to different processing conditions and understand the principles of problem solving.
  • R&D project work which will encompass a mixture of lone project work and team projects to meet agreed targets and deadlines, utilising good communication skills, people skills, IT skills, etc and using available resources to investigate, recommend and develop innovative products/ solutions.
  • The successful candidate must have:
  • A degree or higher in a science discipline
  • Previous experience of 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment is essential, PVC or flooring industry is desirable
  • Previous experience with project management and working in a project- based environment would be beneficial but not essential
  • Excellent computer skills, experience of Microsoft packages essential
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal context
  • Ability to integrate into multiple teams and be able to work closely with stakeholders from different areas of the business
  • Ability to use initiative and be proactive when the situation dictates
