Our partner client have been an integral part of shipbuilding on the River Clyde since 1903 and are now entering an exciting stage in our development as a world leader in marine engineering technology.Over the past few years Ferguson Marine has pushed the boundaries of innovation, particularly in the development of green propulsion technologies - first diesel-electric hybrid and then liquefied natural gas, demonstrated by the recent successful launches of MV Catriona and MV Glen Sannox. Next on the hit-list is hydrogen, a gaseous fuel that can be produced using curtailed renewable energy, stored and then used on board a zero-emission vessel with fresh water as the only by-product.Job Purpose:To manage activity within the yard manufacturing department ensuring delivery of production to required timescales, cost targets and quality standards.Responsibilities & Accountabilities:Manage manufacturing production activity from receipt and preparation of steel sheet through cutting to unit assemblyControl of up to 30 tradesmen through a supporting team of direct chargehandsBuild and manage a safe working culture where every team member understands personal responsibility for their colleagues safety and all work is carried out with local and statutory H&S regulationsOrganise receipt and store of plate section materialCoordinate ESAB cutting programs and schedulesResponsible for organising manpower and production through the manufacturing shop including:Preparation of materialPanel manufactureSub assembly manufacturePositioning and fabrication of jigsUnit assemblyFairing, dressing, and weldingDimensional control inspectionAll material handling including lifting and moving of materialOutfit steelworkControl of drawing issue though the document control processEnsure clear communication with the manufacturing team and workforce through the formal daily meeting structureSeek to improve the manufacturing process and solve problems through team engagement and involvementPerson SpecificationGood problem solverstrong collaborator with exceptional stakeholder management skills.Continuous improvement mindsetTechnical expert with the ability to coach and guide othersProvide technical expertise and support throughout.Motivational skillsService and delivery focusRequired Knowledge, Qualifications & ExperienceCompleted a City and Guilds Apprenticeship or equivalent as a Plater3 years experience in either plater / fabricator roleIdeally IOSH trainedDemonstrable leadership and management experienceExcellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills.Advantage Resourcing is a service driven recruitment consultancy.
