Job Description

4basebio is an innovative gene synthesis company with the ambition to provide high quality, synthetic DNA for use in gene therapy and gene editing platforms. The company is growing rapidly and is establishing a GMP gene synthesis hub at its site north ofCambridge, UK. We are looking for dynamic and experienced team members to help us achieve our ambitions and goals.As Head of Head of Gene Synthesis, you will help grow and develop our DNA synthesis platform in a busy and dynamic environment.Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive the development and improvement of the companys DNA synthesis and novel purification methods
  • Advance and validate processes for scaling and transfer to a cGMP environment
  • Maintain an accurate and complete record of laboratory work performed
  • To undertake any other appropriate roles and responsibilities that reasonably fall within the role holders skills and experience as requested
  • Be prepared to travel to other 4basebio sites
  • Remain current in the most recent developments in DNA amplification and purification
  • Independently analyse and interpret experimental data; identify and solve technical problems
  • Confidently plan, execute, and deliver projects to a high standard and in accordance with project plans
  • Work collaboratively and support the R&D functions of the Company
You will have:
  • Experience leading projects and teams in process development of nucleic acid or biologics synthesis and purification
  • PhD degree in Molecular Biology / Chemistry / Biotechnology / Chemical Engineering / Biochemistry
  • Extensive practical experience in a commercial laboratory and expertise in experimental design
  • Familiarity with lab scale nucleic acid / protein purification, e.g., AKTA platform, crossflow filtration
