Job Description

Senior Shift EngineerReference: Jo5105/LWShift 4 on 4 off 12-hour shifts 2 DAYS 2 NIGHTS 7-7Location: Wigan Salary: £49,500 + Pension + Overtime The CompanyAn excellent opportunity has arisen with a leading food manufacturer, with recognisable brand names on the all the major multiples shelves and their reputation is second to none. Main ResponsibilitiesAs a core member of the Engineering team reporting to the site Maintenance Manager you will strive to deliver best practice, world class engineering standards and support the operation to deliver business needs. Specifically, you will:
  • Be responsible for day-to-day leadership of shift members including prioritization and allocation of workload; deploying labour based on the maintenance schedule and requirements of the task against the competency and capability of resource.
  • Work closely with Shift Operations Managers and other support teams daily to ensure direction on labour and planned engineering activities fully support our operation.
  • Attend the daily production meetings to ensure the maintenance plan is communicated and any equipment issues are resolved and prioritised accordingly.
  • Maintain and improve performance to maximise efficiency of operation in live with KPIs.
  • Management and development of department processes; including shift handovers, briefs and defect reporting/resolving.
  • Assessment engineering team skills and behaviours, assisting in up skilling and training on trade skills, site equipment & specific site processes.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Knowledge of Planned Maintenance and PPM development.
  • Broad knowledge of Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Mechanical, Electrical & PLC/Inverter Assets.
  • Technical hands-on engineering experience, through recognised time served apprenticeship ideally within food manufacturing, although ex-military route candidates also actively considered.
  • Technical qualification in either mechanical or electrical at a minimum NVQ Level 3.
  • Ability to significantly contribute to crisis situations.
  • Strong influencing skills across all levels of colleague.
  • Experience and knowledge of Lean & Asset Care Excellence techniques - particularly root cause.
  • Strong decision-making skills to enable decisions to be made to be made autonomously.
  • Ability to stay strong in the face of challenge to ensure that the correct decision is made.
