PECS Learning Assistant - Picture Exchange Communication system - type of augmentative and alternative communication that uses visual symbols to teach the learning to communicate with parents, carers, teachers, and peers. The aim is to teach intentional,functional communication and to allow users to communicate their wants and needs Location- Oldham, Greater ManchesterSalary: £1350-£1600 PM depending on experience Essential key skills and abilities These criteria will be assessed at the application and interview stage Ability to assist in delivering appropriately differentiated lessons for the delivery of the curriculum. Ability to assess the needs of individual students and maintain appropriate records for the purpose of continuity and progress in curriculum areas. Ability to select appropriate resources to create a stimulating learning environment. Ability to relate and communicate effectively with parents and encourage their participation in their childs education. Ability to work closely with other members of staff in the development of the curriculum and pastoral work of the school. Excellent inter-personal skills Excellent time and task management skills. Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. Ability to use data effectively in setting targets and understanding student progress. Essential These criteria will be evidenced via certificates, or at interview A minimum of 12 months experience within a SEND environment. Essential knowledge These criteria will be assessed at the application and interview stage A sound understanding of recent developments in the school curriculum. Knowledge of the particular requirements of delivering education to students with AEN/SEN, very able, LAC or who have other particular individual needs. Knowledge of strategies which are necessary to promote purposeful learning and progress while safeguarding the health and safety of students. Understanding of multicultural education and other issues related to ensuring that classroom organisation and practices is not discriminatory Essential experience These criteria will be assessed at the application and interview stage Evidence of exemplary classroom practice with students with SEMH difficulties in a similar setting Other essential criteria These criteria will be assessed at the application and interview stage Evidence of ongoing professional development; attendance on courses, INSET, action research, personal study etc. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
