Job Description

Job Title: Director of Science and WellnessReporting to: Chief Science OfficerPurpose: Reporting to the Chief Science Officer, the Director of Science and Wellness will set up and lead a Science, Health and Wellness Centre of Excellence which meets the business requirements in line with the business strategy and 5-year planKey Responsibilities:

  • Centre of Excellence - builds and leads a world class Centre of Excellence providing subject matter expertise, advisory, and input required to meet its strategic ambitions in Health and Wellness in the context of a regulated environment
  • Remains current with industry trends and ensures benefits for this external PoV
  • Quality Assessment - accountable for running quality assessment of products and services and supporting curation
  • Content - responsible for ensuring the CofE provides expert and business appropriate wellness content, this could be through the creation of content and and/or the provision of SME support and input for the Customer content teams and providing an expert review of any relevant content created by other teams
  • Review and validation of health-oriented marketing materials and content
  • Consumer Wellness Advisory - responsible for ensuring consumer advisory provided to customers by colleagues, is accurate, appropriate to the business strategy and brand and meets regulatory requirements
  • Regulation and Validation- responsible for working collaboratively with the Regs team and external providers to ensure all regulatory requirements are met
  • Health and wellness guidelines - provide health and wellness guidelines and SOPs for products and services which the company offers to its customers
  • Categorisation - responsible for ensuring all products are appropriately categorised by level of evidence
  • Customer Journeys SME - support new and existing customer journeys from a health and wellness point of view
  • Learning & Development - supports the L&D function on the provision of expert Health & Wellness training for colleagues
  • Strategic Support- provides a Science/Health/Wellness perspective into the development of the core strategy, particularly Beyond Retail and the development of Customer Journeys, working closely with the Director of Strategy and other colleagues
  • Innovation - works collaboratively with the Director of Innovation to identify new opportunities for innovation in products and propositions, and provide senior SME input into ongoing new proposition and journey development
  • Research - identifies and leads new opportunities for research, where the company can establish an external presence which support the business strategy and growth plans
  • Relationship Management - co-leads external relationships in the wider health and wellness ecosystem
  • In-house consultancy - provides ad hoc consultancy on health and wellness to other parts of the business requiring this expertise.
    • Experience
  • 10+ years of experience within the field of Science, Health and Wellness
  • Experience in a retail and/or e-commerce environment in the Health and Wellness sector
  • Recognised as an expert in the provision of advice, assessment, and content in the field of Science, Health and Wellness
  • Experience of having accountability for quality assessment
  • Proven track record of being able to strike the right balance between commercial aspiration and regulatory requirements in Science, Health and Wellness
  • Commercial and strategic mindset as well as being a deep subject matter expert
  • A strong influencer with great presentation skills who can quickly build trust and credibility
  • Externally well networked and regarded in the field of Science, Health and Wellness
    • Personal Characteristics/Cultural FitCultural and personality fit will be crucial to success
  • Credible at C’ Level - brings strong functional expertise and a grounded, confident style which inspires confidence
  • Judgement - solid judgement gained from experience, can make proposals and recommendations based on experience and evaluate the correct balance between commercial and regulatory requirement
  • Comfortable with the dynamic and fast-moving private equity environment and awareness of how this differs from PLC
  • Can thrive in an ambiguous and changing environment
  • Collaborative style - A natural collaborator who seeks to engage, influence, and support the Chief Business and Science Officer and Executive Board. Works collaboratively with colleagues across the company
