Job Description

Service Care Solutions are recruiting for a Payroll Officer to work for Nottinghamshire Police, on a 18 month initial fixed term contract.Pay: £14.44 per hourLocation: Nottinghamshire NG5 8PPJob Role/Purpose:Are you a dedicated Payroll Officer looking for an exciting opportunity to support Nottinghamshire Police in achieving its goals We have a 6-month fixed-term contract position just for you.Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll functions for the forces 4000 employees each month, while liaising with various stakeholders.
  • Verify the authorisation of all notifications received in accordance with Force Regulations and audit requirements.
  • Act as the central point of contact for all Police and Local Government Pensions queries, ensuring compliance with pension regulations.
  • Stay updated on HM Revenue & Customs legislation and apply it to statutory payments and deductions, ensuring accurate net pay calculations.
  • Interpret and apply Police Regulations, Police Staff Terms and Conditions, Force Policies, and local agreements concerning pay, overtime, and allowances.
  • Communicate with internal and external parties to address pay and allowance inquiries and challenge instructions.
  • Collaborate with the People Services Department to ensure data accuracy and provide prompt resolution for inquiries.
  • Plan and schedule workloads, including overtime data, payrolls, and expenses, adhering to agreed timetables and deadlines.
  • Coordinate the sharing of payroll and human resources data with the People Services and finance teams for the Forces benefit.
  • Participate in the Force PDR process and take ownership of your professional and career development needs.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in a payroll office.
  • In-depth understanding of Inland Revenue legislation related to pay and deductions.
  • Experience with gross to net calculations, Statutory Sick, Maternity, Paternity pay, tax credits, student loans, and court orders.
  • Proficiency in computer-based payroll systems, integrated HR & Payroll, spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and reporting tools.
Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear and concise guidance.
  • Highly motivated, self-confident, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Willingness to train new staff members when necessary.
