Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Customs Declarant to join our team based in Newport. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £25,000 - £30,000 per annum based on experience plus great company benefits. JZ Flowers is a family business; although weve grown to be a large international business with annual revenues of around £150m, the Company still has an entrepreneurial family culture, and we really strive to keep this identity in our rapidlygrowing business.Like many family businesses we pride ourselves on having strong values and ours are firmly built around our people, we value our relationships with our colleagues, and this is evidenced by the many long-standing employees who have developed their careerswith us and contributed greatly to our success.The Customs Declarant role:We are looking for a Customs Declarant to join our team, the successful candidates primary purpose of the role shall be to continue to provide exceptional service to our customers by ensuring stock arrives to our warehouse in the shortest time possible.The Customs Declarant shall be confident using customs software connected to CHIEF to make import and export declarations (both inventories linked and not).Responsibilities/skills were looking for in our Customs Declarant:

Understand how Road Freight works between GB and the EU
Understand and work with Incoterms
Use destin8 to clear inventory linked import declarations in CHIE
Work closely with hauliers to ensure documentation/information is provided within reasonable time frames
Troubleshoot any clearance issues with the haulier/port
Resolve any post clearance issues that may arise
Make PEACH declarations to pre-notify Defra that plant/plant products are arriving in the UK
Adhere to appropriate standard operating procedures

Skills and Knowledge, were looking for in our Customs Declarant:Essential:

Strong desire to continuously improve systems and processes
Customs knowledge and ability to complete a Customs Import/Export declaration in CHIEF
Focused, excellent written and verbal communication skills
Team playeralways willing to help and support others to make sure our customers needs are always met
Strong organisation skills, ability to prioritise workloads
Commercial awareness. Proactive and can do attitude
Able to and comfortable negotiating with both customers and suppliers to win business and secure the best deals

Desirable:

Minimum of 2 years experience in Freight Forwarding with all round knowledge of Road Freight for both Imports & Exports
Relevant knowledge of current legislation
Experience running an ETSF
Experience with the Customs Declaration Service
