Job Description

You will be based within the Data Platform Unit within IT Operations & you will be a key member of the team responsible for supporting the Groups UK distributed database environment.You will work closely with other staff from IT Operations and beyond including 3rd parties to ensure the database is estate functions as required alongside collaborating with project teams to ensure that change within the database environments is managedand controlled effectively and safely.Day to day youll Support and problem solve on all production databases (in hours and as part of an on-call rota out with core hours) as a priority alongside supporting the databases within some testing environments wherever required. Work with project teams to deliver new databases alongside supporting changes required to existing databases within the estate. Keep knowledge current in regard to Oracle database technologies including but not limited to Exadata and OCI.Our work is highly specialised, high profile and fast paced, so you will be expected to self-manage in a professional and proactive manner in conjunction with your manager who will assign your tasks.The role is all about Thinking outside the box Supporting live service through proactive identification of risk, swift resolution of live issues and proposing appropriate fixes/improvements for future. Working closely with Infrastructure Designers and Project Managers to ensure solutions meet the organisations strategic needs Collaborating with internal and external parties in order to provide excellent customer service. Improving our processes through process automation, innovation and continuous improvement.To be successful youll need to bring A strong understanding and experience in supporting Oracle databases (10g, 11g, 12c and 19). Experience supporting a Production database estate. Experience setting up and maintaining Oracle Data Guard. Experience of using Oracle Cloud Control. Experience of undertaking database patching and upgrades (ideally to 19). Knowledge and understanding of Grid Infrastructure. Awareness of Flashback technologies. ITIL Service Management awareness (Change & Problem Management processes). Oracle RMAN backup and Recovery experience. Oracle Linux, Linux, AIX, and Solaris Operating System experience. Oracle Tuning and Optimisation skills. Strong technical expertise and decision-making skills. Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility for team deliverables. Experience of Oracle RAC with ASM and Multi-tenancy. Experience with TDE (Transparent Data Encryption).Wed love you to have... A positive can-do attitude and excellent interpersonal skills. Experience with RAT and compression OCI knowledge / awareness. Experience of supporting databases residing upon an Exadata appliance (Cloud at customer X-7 Gen 2 ideally) including patching and maintenance.
