Job Description

Edward Reed Recruitment are leading the recruitment process for a Newcastle based manufacturing organisation in their hiring of a new Procurement/Supply Chain Manager.The Procurement Manager will oversee a small, dedicated team responsible for efficiently managing materials procurement, inventory control, logistics, and distribution processes. This role requires someone who has experience sourcing metals and specialistmaterials, preferably from across EMEA & Asia.The role holder is also responsible for the management of the Supplier Management framework. This role ensures the seamless functioning of the end-to-end supply chain to prevent delays and capitalize on sales opportunities.Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop buying opportunities across the EMEA region and Asia.
  • Develop and implement supply chain management strategies to enhance efficiency and speed throughout the entire supply chain.
  • Source, evaluate, and foster supplier relationships to optimize costs and support new product development.
  • Oversee inventory management, including inventory turnover, obsolescence, accuracy, and value. Lead inventory counts and cycle counting system enhancement efforts.
  • Identify and coordinate international logistics opportunities and manage shipping documentation.
  • Prepare KPI reports and balanced scorecards to address inventory constraints and delivery issues.
  • Analyse market trends and competitive strategies to inform supply chain planning.
  • Supplier Management Framework responsibilities including adherence, reporting and performance management through formal supplier reviews.
  • Ensure timely delivery from the supply base while achieving cost reductions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and exploit growth opportunities.
  • Lead communication and negotiations with external suppliers, managing agreements, SLAs, and KPIs.
  • Supervise and develop the supply chain team, setting performance objectives and providing development opportunities.
  • Develop cost reduction initiatives and contribute to achieving one-year goals.
  • Work closely with the Operations team to optimize inventory control.
  • Streamline and automate low-level order processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts with a proactive problem-solving approach.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Steel and metals sourcing experience, preferably from India and China
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Experience in ERP systems, including diagnostics, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Leadership experience, including employee supervision, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Background in supply chain management within a manufacturing context.
  • In-depth understanding of inventory and cycle counting procedures.
  • Effective communication skills with both management teams and external partners.
  • Lean methodology familiarity, including practical knowledge of Kanban.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and effective prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to manage major projects.
  • Supply Chain Professional Certification is desirable.
