Job Description

Finance Officer

  • Job Type: Full-time, 6-9 months temporary, potential for permanent
  • Location: Newcastle, Hybrid, 1 day in the office
  • Salary: £15 - 17.50p/h D.O.E
My client isseeking a dedicated Finance Officerto support theirCommercial Accountant and ensure the charity’s accounting records are meticulously maintained. This role is vital for providing timely financial information and reports, and for ensuring compliancewith all statutory taxation requirements. Day to Day of the role:
  • Assist with maintaining orderly and up-to-date accounting records for timely reporting.
  • Process and review financial transactions, ensuring accurate entries in the financial systems.
  • Set up projects on Sage, review coding and postings of invoices, prepare journals, and manage sales receipts and supplier payments.
  • Support compliance with corporation tax, gift aid, PAYE, NI, and VAT requirements.
  • Aid in the preparation of monthly management accounts, reconciliation of key accounts, and generation of annual financial statements.
  • Provide financial information to staff and managers, assisting with interpretation and usage.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial systems, processes, and controls.
  • Observe and identify training and development needs within the Finance Team.
  • Provide cover for other finance staff as needed.
  • Perform general financial administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in financial administration or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with accounting software, preferably Sage.
  • Understanding of statutory taxation requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to support non-finance staff.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
