Job Description

The YMCA Robin Hood group provides temporary supported accommodation for young people, refugees, unaccompanied asylum seekers and children leaving care across Mansfield.We are recruiting for a Trauma Informed Youth Engagement Worker to support engagementwithin our 16+ services, through a trauma informed approach to young people across our Mansfield and Ashfield 16+ services.Job PurposeThe purpose of this role is to support engagement within our 16+ services, through a trauma informed approach. Leading ondeveloping a resident participation agenda and involvement strategy is key to this, to ensure that everyone has fair opportunity toparticipate. Furthermore, leading on the development of a resident’s forum will enable our young people to have a voice in the services they receive.We are looking for someone to devise an activities programme to encourage meaningful use of time, develop a financial inclusion strategy to support residents to maximise their income, address the underlying barriers to obtaining meaningful employment anddevise workshops to overcome them. This programme will include sports, to support green mental health initiatives.Through developing a holistic engagement strategy, with focus on mind, body and spirit, we can best serve the young people who live in our homes.Key areas of Responsibility:

  • To develop a trauma informed engagement service, with the needs of the Young People we serve at its heart
  • To develop and lead a representative resident body to promote service user governance and shape the service according to the needs of the client group
  • To develop and run a resident engagement programme that is inclusive of all residents
  • To collaborate with support staff in engaging residents to attend activities
  • To develop feedback mechanisms to identify resident needs and respond accordingly
  • To support the development of a Psychologically Informed Environment for service users
  • To develop a welcoming committee for new residents, comprised of existing residents
  • To work collaboratively with the Trauma Informed Therapeutic Practitioner to achieve positive outcomes for those we work with
  • To maintain accurate records, and timely signposting to other services
About YouYou will have experience of delivering youth work to vulnerable young people developing engagement and activity programs for young people, ideally in a trauma informed environment.Through experience or studies, you will have knowledge of developing trauma informed approaches as well as a good understanding of the needs of young people, their housing rights, support services available and associated legislation.A professional qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 in Housing and Social Care would be preferred but we are happy to support you work towards this qualification and any other qualifications you were interested in persuing.Through your approach and communication style, you will be able to demonstrate an empathetic, professional and person-centred approach, in relation to issues pertaining to rough sleepers and homeless people with multiple and complex needs.You will also have the ability to manage and deal with conflict and diffuse difficult situations with confidence. Whether internal colleagues or external stakeholders, you will be able to establish and maintain effective working partnerships for the benefitof the young people you work with.Within this role, you will be supported by our appointed consultant Forensic Psychologist who supports all of the children and young people in our care who may have experience trauma. In working with her and her team, you will also get support, developmentand the opportunity to expand your knowledge, experience and techniques.
