Job Description

Provide and apply technical expertise in mechanical engineering to the development and sustaining of devices. To work in close association with Development, Manufacturing and Business Development personnel to ensure the highest levels of quality, reliability and manufacturability are achieved.Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design responsibility from design development, testing/validation, manufacturing implementation, market launch, and through to end of product life cycle, championing great design to meet all performance and functional criteria.
  • Manage multiple tasks, with responsibility for meeting all parameters including cost, schedule and performance targets
  • Generation of 3D models, assemblies, 2D drawings, including maintenance of design history using appropriate industry standards and electronic control, at all stages of projects (SolidWorks)
  • Hands on engineering approach to resolving problems, building and testing experimental models, pre-production units and prototypes, drawing appropriate and qualified conclusions
  • Ensure the technical accuracy and soundness of an intended design solution including appropriate material selection, tolerance analysis/calculations, simulations, and testing to meet project goals.
  • Develop and undertake test plans and procedures for experimental, verification and validation testing, to evaluate and ensure designs meet all specification requirements
  • Generation of appropriate technical and project documentation including specifications, design and phase gate reviews, technical reports, risk assessments & design history documentation, to support program requirements and business goals.
  • Ensure LEAN manufacturing and DFM/DFMA principals are applied into design concepts.
  • Work in conjunction with suppliers and colleagues responsible for tooling, equipment and manufacturing to execute an achievable manufacturing build plan.
    • Essential
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record as a mechanical design and development engineer.
  • A minimum 3 years’ experience of mechanical design in 3D with SolidWorks, and a sound knowledge of document control methods.
  • Minimum HND (ideally degree qualified or equivalent) in Mechanical and/or Design Engineering.
  • Proven project management and / or project engineering experience and can demonstrate delivery of technical projects.
  • Experience and understanding of design and development tools and process with mechanical engineering.
  • Working experience of the development and evaluation methods for design, including analysis, testing, verification and validation trials.
  • Experience of risk management ( dFMEA) within the design and development process.
  • Design of Experiment process and methods.
  • Experience of machining techniques, plastic injection moulding and materials processing.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • A practical individual with a hands-on approach to resolving problems.
  • Creative, independent thinker with good judgement that can take the initiative & owns a project and/or problem until resolution.
  • Produce accurate, high quality work with attention to detail.
  • Willing to further knowledge, skills and competences through study, training and personal development.
