Job Description

Here at the Coal Authority, we have a fantastic opportunity for anPMO Planning and Assurance Managerto join our team.You will join us on a full-timebasis,and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £34,544 to £37,998per annum.Vacancy DescriptionWe encourage applicants from anywhere in the UKas long as youre able to be in the Mansfield office for a minimum of 1-2 days a week and attend our regular team meetings in person, we embrace a hybrid working model as much as possible.We offer different ways to work flexibly, and the following types of flexibility are usually possible: job share, flexible hours, working from home for part of the week and compressed hours. Please feel free to talk about what flexibility means to you atyour interview.About the PMO Planning and Assurance Manager role: Working within the PMO and reporting to the Principal PMO Manager, the PMO Planning Manager will have a broad range of touch points with members across the PMO and Environment Department particularly.At the highest level, the PMO Planning Manager will be interfacing with Environment Leads to support Programme and Project Delivery through Planning, Assurance and Programme level reporting.The role will be critical in maintaining and establishing robust governance and assurance processes for all projects and programmes delivered by the Environment department.Responsibilities as ourPMO Planning and Assurance Managerwill be to:

  • Establish and take ownership of project planning methods, standards and techniques within the Programme Management Office
  • Provide planning support and advice to delivery teams, and encourage consistency and best practice
  • Provide expert advice and technical support on the use of specialist project tools (including MS Project and PWA), best practices and applications
  • Support Programme and Project Managers in project initiation, setting project baselines, agreeing plans with stakeholders and maintaining accurate project plans
  • Identify dependencies across programmes and projects, provide analysis and reflect these in planning
  • Act as a member of Programme Boards, providing challenge, assurance and information on behalf of the Programme Management Office
  • Support Programme and Project Managers in determining resource requirements and performing resource analysis and allocation to optimise resource efficiency
  • Advise Programme and Project Managers on the production and maintenance of business cases and other project documentation
  • Ssupport effective Programme and Project assurance and governance throughout the lifecycle, including facilitation of the stage gate approval process
  • Innovate and improve project and programme planning, reporting and governance
About our PMO Planning and Assurance Manager:Candidates should demonstrate in their application how they meet the following essential criteria:
  • Prince 2 or similar qualification
  • Experience in the establishment and / operation of a programme based PMO function
  • Solid understanding of PMO process, standards and governance; experience of operational management within a PMO function
  • Experience of planning and co-ordinating Programmes
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas via strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.
  • A team player, with excellent collaboration and influencing skills at all levels, from front line to senior leadership.
