Job Description

The location is quiet, so you’ll need your own transport to get here.The estate offers tranquil woodlands, riverside walks and glorious formal gardens with impressive far-reaching views. There’s a garden style for everyone: Oriental-inspired Water Garden, 100-year-old yew topiary, scented Rose Garden, magnificent herbaceous borders and Cliveden’s famous Parterre with its stunning spring and summer bedding displays. Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing As a hands-on Gardener, you’ll assist in making sure that the gardens are maintained to a high standard. You’ll be passionate, enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the garden. This role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop, enhance and conserve the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.Cliveden is a diverse garden where all aspects of horticulture are carried out. Among the many tasks are weeding, mulching and leaf clearance as well as the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials. A substantial part of the role will be to help cut numerous formal hedges, assist with the mowing of our fine lawns and to help the team with the planting of Cliveden’s renowned annual bedding displays. In addition, you’ll help with tasks as varied as deadheading, plant-specific pruning, pest/disease identification and treatment and propagation within our nursery and glasshouses. You will also support a senior colleague with the daily care of a specific garden area, ensuring high quality presentation and healthy plants are available for our visitors to enjoy throughout the year.You’ll also support garden volunteers and help them to make the most of their time here. You’ll be expected to interact with the public on a daily basis, answering their many questions, or help out with gardening workshops, tours and helping set up events when needed.Please also read the full role profile attached to this advert Who were looking for To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:

  • Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience.
  • RHS Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants
  • Confidence to participate in garden activities and events
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and basic maintenance (daily checks); including tractors, leaf blowers, and pedestrian mowers (with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance).
