Job Description

We are working alongside a Secondary School in Sefton. The School are recruiting for an experienced Caretaker to join their team to give support and provide exceptional facilities for staff and students.Note: This role is an ongoing position, starting in SeptemberMain Responsibilities:

  • To act as a key holder, unlocking and locking the premises in accordance with security procedures.
  • Assist with regular checks of the fire alarm system, escape routes, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
  • In the event of snow, applying salt/grit to external areas.
  • Carry out routine procedures and/or checks on ancillary equipment.
  • Ensure that the Health and Safety Guidance is adhered to at all times.
  • Monitoring the standards of cleanliness of the premises and furnishings
  • Support the facilitation of the premises with evening and weekend functions.
  • Handling deliveries and taking items to their destination.
  • Assist in the setting up of rooms for examinations.
  • Ensure caretaking and cleaning equipment is in a safe and working condition.
  • Twice daily inspect toilets/washrooms/showers ensuring high standards of cleanliness are maintained, replenishing stocks of toilet rolls, soap and hand sanitiser dispensers.
  • Preventative maintenance.
  • Painting and decorating.
  • Joinery - 1st Line maintenance of fixtures and fittings, examples, tightening of screws on hinges, maintenance of door handles, minor repairs etc.
  • Plumbing - unblocking sinks, sink traps, waste pipes, toilets, adjustment/replacement of tap washers etc.
  • Patch Plastering.
  • Gardening and External Repair and Maintenance (Paving etc.)
  • Under the direction of the Head of IT and Estates - liaise with External Contractors, directing as appropriate, understanding/communicating the outcome of the visit and any remedial works identified.
  • Cleaning duties to ensure that the premises are always clean and tidy.
  • Routinely clean internal and external ground floor glazing.
  • Clean light fittings, ducting vents and replacing where necessary minor parts like bulbs, tubes, in accordance with safe working practices.
  • To clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains etc.
  • To ensure gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris and that grounds are litter free.
  • Routinely (twice daily) clean external areas of the site, litter picking, clearing windowsills, emptying external waste bins, remove graffiti.
