Job Description

Risk ManagerLocation: Manchester (with flexible home working post Covid)Reports to: Chief Risk Officer (CRO)The Company:An established, highly successful and rapidly growing commercial lender with nationwide coverage, who finances Property Investors and Developers and SME’s to help them grow.Role Purpose:As Risk Manager you will have responsibility for maintaining, facilitating adherence to, and the internal reporting of, all risks associated with the business, as reflected in the Risk Management Framework ensuring that current and future Regulatory obligations and legislation are complied with.You would also provide expertise and capability in all aspects of risk management. This role sits within the second line of defence for Risk Management.Responsibilities:

  • Provide appropriate technical and professional expertise in respect of risk management
  • Ensure policies in respect of risk management matters are maintained to meet regulatory requirements and good market practice
  • Ensure that processes are maintained and enhanced for the assessment, measurement and management of risks
  • Proactively maintain and enhance the risk register ensuring monthly updates are reported to Risk Committee
  • Act as secretariat for Risk Committee assisting the Chair in organisation, running and recording Committee meetings
  • Produce the necessary reporting to Risk Committee for all new risks and near misses. Liaising with owners to ensure the accuracy of the reporting. Once approved, transfer to the risk register for ongoing management and monitoring
  • Produce the risk committee pack, liaising with owners of the reporting required to ensure that wherever possible the pack is available 7 days prior to the meeting
  • Assist in providing an independent view of risks and risk management practices to the Risk Committee and Board. Producing information / slides from the risk function eg:
  • o Reporting of Risk Appetite KRI measureso Risk trends summary / overviewo Risk Register review summary / overview
  • Maintain list of all Company policies, ensuring that the owners complete an annual review to be reported and approved at Risk Committee
  • Complete an annual review of Risk Management Framework
  • Track annual Risk goals for Credit / Risk, reporting updates to CRO
  • Project manage ad-hoc’ projects as directed by CRO ensuring regular reporting is completed and deadlines adhered to
  • Support the CRO in developing the 2nd line risk function and continuing development of the Risk Framework
  • Skills & Knowledge:
  • Good knowledge of the risk management landscape in financial services
  • Strong and confident decision maker
  • Good communication skills, experience of dealing with senior management on risk issues and able to build productive working relationships at all levels
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organisational skills, taking personal responsibility for workflow
  • A high standard of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent with a relevant professional qualification
  • Experience of working in a similar role in a risk management function of a regulated financial services business
