MainPurpose of Job Reporting to the Application Support Manager, The Junior Application Support Engineer role is is responsible for the configuration, maintenance and overall support of the Linux estate with a smaller responsibility for our Windows estate. It will involveproactively monitoring and investigating issues ranging from within testing environments up to production machines. This role does require on-call/shift work on a rotation basis.ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure and maintain applications, services, servers and environmentsProactive analysis and pre-emptive incident reduction by means of monitoring/trend analysisDevelopment, deployment, tuning and upgrade of applications and servicesEnsuring best practice security to maintain compliant statusUtilising new products to give the best possible solution to issuesSupporting internal users and external parties/clients Key Skills Competent Unix/Linux skills. Preferred Debian/UbuntuExperience with: Bash, SQL, PHPWorking knowledge of Apache/Nginx, HAProxy.Working knowledge of Nagios, Grafana, or Prometheus or similar monitoring toolsExperience of Log management/aggregation tools. Preferably Graylog/ElasticSearch.Knowledge of Config Management tools. Preferably Chef or AnsibleKnowledge of Continuous integration tools. Preferably Jenkins.Source Repository Management e.g. Git/SVN. Experience BSc in computer science (or relevant alternative) OR1 year of commercial experience within a similar role Desirable Experience or knowledge with Java/C++/VB.NETExperience or knowledge of the following technologies:Ruby, Groovy, Node.JSDatabase experience.
