If you are Ethnically Diverse anddemonstrateyou meet theminimum criteriafor the role you will be guaranteed an interview.The difference you will make as a Database Administrator.Experienced Azure SQL Database Administrator to be the custodian of our Azure SQL databases. From the quality and integrity of the data within them, to the performance of the data queries on the database and modernisation of our data tier from traditional SQLserver instances to SQL Services in Azure.Subject Matter Expert for design, maintenance and support of a range of databases and database technologies and tools to industry standards, responsible for the operational performance, integrity and security of the databases. Will constantly monitor the databasefor bottlenecks and slow performance and assist other developers in fixing database issues.They will review code to ensure the quality of the data design by avoiding complexity and advocating clarity. This is a hands-on role in terms of day-to-day management and maintenance of the databases, which also requires forward planning and the designingof new elements in the data tier.About YouWe are looking for someone with:
  • Experience in managing databases at scale, with experience in Azure SQL and the Azure platform.
  • Good working knowledge of Azure SQL.
  • Excellent working knowledge of database technologies, focusing on the Microsoft technology stack, from RDBMS to NoSQL database technologies.
Role Requirements
  • Develop, maintain and ensure adherence to the Group’s database operational standards and controls including management, archiving, backups, recovery, monitoring and alerting, with input into Database Technology Reference Architectures owned by the IT Architecturefunction.
  • Assisting the Business and Engineering Management teams to deliver the best data tier for customers, advising on industry best practice, data security, integrity and optimising performance.
  • Providing approval on database design functional specifications.
  • Assist in the creation of high-level specifications, architecture and design documents with the ability to write concise yet comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Ensure there is consistent use of shared data components and technologies.
  • Resolve database integrity, performance, blocking, connectivity, and replication issues.
  • Detect and resolve database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other contention issues.
  • Perform and manage Database backup/recovery/restore and capacity monitoring.
  • Identify and setup alerts and logging in Azure. Accountable for the definition, design, implementation and continuous improvement of pro-active monitoring and alerting of thresholds in database efficiency and performance, and as required, undertaking remedialactions.
  • Respond to monitoring feedback and manage alerts to minimise disruption to services, meeting agreed Operations Level Agreements (OLAs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) as appropriate.
  • Maintain databases – Statistics, Indexes, fragmentation and conduct performance tuning and optimisation (Stored procedures, Views, Functions, Queries, database).
  • Coordinate removal and/or archiving of data that is no longer required to be available in the production databases.
  • Design and create databases to support development initiatives.
