Job Description

Head of DesignSalary £40,000 to £50,000- subject to experience & qualificationsLeeds basedPermanent, Full TimeCompany ProfileWe are a market leader in the contract bedroom furniture manufacturing industry, working with prestigious clients such as Hilton, Marriott, BUPA, W Hotels, Sheraton, Holiday Inn & Crowne Plaza. We have a 60,000 ft2factory just 10 minutes from Leeds City Centre where we make high specification, bespoke hotel furniture. The pride and ability demonstrated by our team allows us to maintain a strong order book and drives forward our excellent reputation.We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and motivated Head of Designto lead the design team and the development of our bespoke furniture. You will have extensive knowledge in furniture design and manufacture.This new role is senior and key to the company, so the successful candidate will have a significant impact on the future design & manufacturing direction of our company.Responsibilities include:

  • Development, training and motivation of your designers.
  • Customer facing design presentations and development meetings.
  • Commercial accountability for the department meeting the budgets for designs.
  • Managing team workloads and ensuring output is delivered on time and within the allocated hours.
  • Fostering teamwork and collaboration within the design department through involvement and mentoring of all team members.
  • Developing the integration of design processes and procedures to improve the efficiency both within the department and with its interface with other departments
  • Improving design detailing by improving the speed through the department and the quality of detailing for the manufacturing team to work to
  • Providing both formal and informal feedback to team members
  • Collaborating closely with project managers and our production team
  • Produce accurate drawings that are suitable for manufacturing and installation purposes, meeting the production schedule and exceed the expectations of clients
  • Assist in the development of processes to improve efficiency and project delivery and where possible, to engineer designs to be as efficient as possible for manufacture
  • Ensure that quality and consistency of output is always maintained
    1. Skills and experience sought:
  • 5 years + experience of designing furniture/joinery products
  • 3 years + experience of managing a design team within those fields
  • Ability to convert design concepts into accurate technical furniture drawings for manufacture
  • Sound knowledge of key manufacturing techniques and materials knowledge
  • Strong Experience of using AutoCAD and especially SolidWorks
  • Degree (or similar) in Furniture Design or similar
  • Confidence and good communication skills when speaking with factory, suppliers and customers
  • Flexible working to accommodate deadlines and production timelines
  • Well organised and committed, able to work to deadlines and manage a number of projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in the contract furniture market would be a preference
