Job Description

Our Client is a leading engineering business based in West Yorkshire. The company currently require a talented Chemical Engineer to join the company. Key Responsibilities

  • Primary focus on designing and improving bioplastic production process including fermentation, downstream processing and polymerisation.
  • Process optimisation and sensitivity analysis for production procedures.
  • Improve production efficiency and assess opportunities for modification and innovation.
  • Coordinate with team and external organisations in planning studies to examine process efficiencies.
  • Communicate the progress and data analysis in the form of technical reports.
  • Creating P&IDs, plant layout and plant design.
  • Participation in HAZOP, HAZID and SIL reviews while acting as a point of contact for clients for process-related matters.
Skills Required:
  • Educated to Masters or PhD level in a Chemical Engineering discipline with sustained industrial experience.
  • A qualification in Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline eligible for IChemE membership.
  • An academic foundation in physics, in particular, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
  • Previous experience in biochemical processing.
  • A background in chemical engineering/biochemical engineering/process engineering is essential and previous experience in solids handling, separation methodologies, heat transfer and hygienic process operations in the food/pharmaceutical industry are desirable.
  • Previous simulation and system modelling experience in MATLAB.
  • Experience with process modelling software, i.e. SuperPro, GAMS, Aspen or similar.
  • Experienced in fermentation at laboratory or, preferably, industrial-scale (operating fermenters, process monitoring, problem-solving).
  • Understanding of fermentation operations (feeding, mixing, gas treatment, process monitoring, downstream processing) and common biological/mechanical problems.
  • Understanding and experience with polymerisation (ideally biopolymers).
  • Understanding the health & safety and environmental regulatory framework for biochemical processing.
  • Strong understanding of principles and practices for biochemical engineering and GXP operations.
Salary:
  • Up to £50,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
