You will be based in our York, Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow or Edinburgh office, but there are opportunitiesin other offices across the UK. We would welcome interest from candidates looking for either a part-time or full-time position. Youll be managing and delivering environmental inputs to large-scale development projects that are transforming our infrastructure, such as:

  • Power generation projects, including carbon capture, hydrogen and renewables (including solar and offshore)
  • Power distribution and transmission projects (including international connectors)
  • Rail projects such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and the Northumberland Line
  • Highway improvements
  • Regeneration projects, including portside developments
  • Developments within the water, defense, aviation and industrial sectors
Youll be providing environmental inputs across all project lifecycles, from early strategy development and site identification studies, through feasibility, optioneering/ option selection, outline design, to detailed design, discharging of conditions, constructionand scheme operation/ maintenance. You will have the opportunity to work across a portfolio of development projects covering multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill etc.). To apply for this will role, youll need to be able to demonstrate experience in managing multidisciplinary environmental inputs to complex and large-scale projects. Youll also have worked closely with design engineers to intercept and mitigate potential environmentaleffects, engaging and consulting across a wide range of audiences, as well as effectively managing resources and budgets. Minimum Requirements
  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge.
  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline.
  • Makes recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing.
  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standards.
  • Assess work against standards, objectives and specifications.
  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative. Assignments are often self-initiated. Acts as advisor to management and clients. Oversees the work of less experienced scientists.
Your role will include:
  • Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a range of projects, with a focus on the management of EIAs in support of gaining development consent
  • Managing the preparation of EIA screening and scoping reports and Environmental Statements, including the technical review of specialist chapters
  • Working in partnership with members of our technical environmental teams
  • Liaising with clients and internal supply teams
  • Working collaboratively with design teams to ensure environmental considerations are appropriately taken into account, delivering benefits where possible
  • Managing resources, delegating activities, monitoring and managing project budgets (with support as applicable)
  • Supporting business development opportunities and associated fee and technical proposal development
  • Promoting AECOMs environmental services to both internal and external audiences
Youll have:
  • An excellent understanding of the EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation
  • Confidence when engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of an established team, coordinating inputs from specialist technical teams
  • Excellent verbal and report writing skills, including technical reviewing with an eye for detail
  • Project management skills, including programming, staff resource management and budget management
  • A degree in a relevant environmental discipline (preferably a Masters degree) and an appropriate professional membership
  • Willingness to travel
