GIS Technician Graduate Position

Job Description

PurposeReporting to the Managing Director, the GIS Technician will support the ongoing maintenance and dissemination of data and applications in the GIS environment. The GIS Technician will work with clients on the production of Land Plans and other Drawings to ensure their needs for Mapping and GIS information are met on a day by day basis, along with performing Utility Searches when required:

  1. Supporting the Managing Director with CAD and appropriate drawings;
  2. Drawing up GIS and CAD mapping as required;
  3. Maintaining the mapping software and utilities search website;
Technical Skills Required:
  • Masters in Geographical Information Systems is essential
  • Experience/knowledge using AutoCAD or similar and translating DWG files to/from GIS
  • Familiarity with Ordnance Survey mapping datasets
    • Personal Skill:
  • Good team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • Good work ethic with motivation to deliver products to very tight deadlines
  • Flexible with regard to working hours
  • Physically fit to walk cable routes
    • Preferred Skills
  • Ideally experience of using ArcGIS Desktop/ArcMAP including extensions for;
  • plan production including setting up and utilising data driven pages
  • complex editing of geometry including utilising the advanced editing toolbox, including ArcPy/ scripting
  • database management including applying metadata in line with INSPIRE directive
  • Hands on experience collecting data using Trimble (GeoXH with Ordnance Survey VRS) GPS device or similar and post processing of data for inclusion into mapping products.
  • Ability to confidently use the full Adobe Creative Suite including (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro)
  • Basic development skills for HTML, Javascript and PHP for website building
  • Experience using other mapping software such as Quantum GIS/ Google Earth/ Autocad Map
  • Experience in producing plans for Development Consent Orders
  • Familiarity with Land Registry title plans
  • Knowledge of offshore and onshore cable routes and appropriate legislation
  • Experience of performing Utility Searches
