Job Description

Woodlandscan accommodate young people up to eighteen years of age; the legal requirement set out by the DFE requires that all staff need to be at least four years older than the oldest accommodated young person; therefore the minimum age for application for this position needs to be twenty-two years.Woodlands looks after up to4 young people agedbetween 10-17 years old on admission and provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people who have experienced challenging and traumatic life events. Woodlands offers you the opportunity to join a dedicated and energetic team that provides the best possible quality of personalised care for young people that meets each child’s needs and promotes their welfare.Through the process of building meaningful relationships with both the young people and staff; you will be part of a team that provides warmth, nurture and care for some of Surrey’s most vulnerable children. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires compassion, understanding, playfulness, and humour.Woodlands will also give you the opportunity to work with a wider network of professionals in achieving 24-hour, child centred care and support for our young people and their families. We are committed to providing residential care as a positive choice, recognising that young people will come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have different experiences and needs as a result of this.We strive to support young people to understand the circumstances that have led to them being looked after and to help them make sense of their lifejourney. For these Residential Worker posts you will need to aspire to ‘make a difference’ and have a commitment to practice in a restorative way.The Successful candidate must have/be:

  • Achieved the Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People Workforce Diploma Social Care Pathway, or equivalent within 2 years of being appointed.
  • Knowledge and experience of working directly with children and young people.
  • Awareness of Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and relevant Health and Safety Legislation, and of the roles and responsibilities of practitioners working in a child care environment.
  • Practice and ability to respond to conflict or other incidents involving our young people within Surrey’s restorative framework.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of activities to develop and sustain appropriate relationships with young people.
  • Ability and preparedness to recognise and deal appropriately with conflict, and to receive and give constructive feedback.
  • Committed to an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive approach to the work and able to translate this attitude into practice.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to cope with stress.
  • Prepared to be flexible and available to work unsocial hours, including public holidays
