Job Description

Job Title: IPU Healthcare Assistant - Palliative careTrust Location: IpswichPay Rates: Up to £20.95 excluding holiday payShift Patterns: Long Days, Weekends & Bank Holidays To work at all times under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in order to provide individualised care to patients and families whilst respecting patient choice. We are committed to empowering patients with life limiting illnesses, supporting them to achievethe best quality of life possible.The Inpatient Unit palliative care team provide holistic, skilled, high-quality and patient centred palliative care to all in-patients.At the Hospice, you will learn the following:

  • To be a driving force for change and improvement bringing new ideas to respond more effectively to the diverse needs of our patients.
  • To support families and loved ones as they will play a vital role in supporting with the patients care.
  • How to ensure a patient feels valued and at home whilst in our care.
  • How to manage end of life symptoms and how to approach the care of a patient in their final stages of life.
  • Youll learn a more flexible approach to the role of a healthcare assistant allowing the patient to lead the way and adapting your care to their needs.

What youll be responsible for:
  • Assessing and monitoring patient conditions
  • Checking symptoms and vital signs and arranging diagnostic tests
  • Recognising, responding to, and managing emergency situations
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate standards of evidence-based care
The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above.Youll need to have the following qualification/experience:
  • A minimum of 6 months paid experience in a Palliative Care environment within the last 3 years
  • Ensure accurate records are kept in accordance with CHS policy and NMC guidelines
  • Undertake regular mandatory training
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
