Job Description

Our client a very well established international freight forwarder is now seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Manager to be based at their very busy Ipswich OfficeThis role will requires a manager that has proven management skills, able to motivate their team and who is not afraid of hard work and is able to work under pressure.Job purposeResponsible for the overall management and development of the forwarding team ensuring it is an effective and profitable function utilising its people, processes, and systems in the best way possible.Duties & ResponsibilitiesCommercial• Undertake business development activities which lead to the generation of new profitable and reoccurring business, including cold calling and e-shots• Proactively follow up on leads, referrals and enquires from new or existing customers with quotes that are commercial and profitable• Responsible for negotiating with suppliers and customers on rates to generate the most amount of profit for the business• Act as the key account manager for a set customer base, efficiently handling any enquiries or complaints.People

  • Motivate and lead the Forwarding Team
  • • Ensure the team are competent and proactive in their roles to best serve our customers• Undertake daily people management of the forwarding team. This covers all employee lifecycle matters; new starters, absence and performance management, employee relations issues, leavers etc• Recruitment lead for the team, ensuring quality appointments and the department is adequately staffed during changing needs or absence• Develop, train and support the team to ensure they meet the required performance standards• Ensure accurate records are held within the HR system for the team and work with Payroll and HR to ensure accurate payroll and employment documentation for staff.• Promote and nurture a culture consistent with the Lombard values• Attend any required training and organise relevant training for the team• Take responsibility for communicating the vision and long term plans of Lombard so that their team are aware of the direction of LombardOperational • Responsible for accurate and up to date rates held within internal IT systems• Receiving in and processing customer requirements either directly or via 3rd party agents, using the internal IT systems to create job files and accurately enter all the required information including customs charges.• Updating job files where required on any changes regarding the freight and liaising with customers as appropriate• Undertake customs clearance activities where required• Entering costs and charges on completed job files to ensure accurate and timely invoicing out to customers which makes a profit for the business• Liaising with the finance team in dealing with any invoice queries• Arranging the efficient transportation of freight using the most cost-effective method to meets the customer needs• Daily use of the Multifreight system ensuring entry is accurate and timely• Any other duties which might reasonably be requested in association with this role in order to meet the needs of the business.Skills & Attributes• Engaging Leader and people manager• Commercially minded with a good understanding of financial and performance data• Able to build excellent working relationships internally and externally• Excellent planning and organisational skills• the ability to work calmly under pressure• Continuously seek to improve themselves, their team and working practices• Proactive & enthusiastic, with a strong drive to achieve• Motivated and ambitious to build the business• Analytical skills Required skills
