Job Description

Policy Manager Location: Ingliston, EH28 8LTSalary: £25K to £30K, DOEContract: Full Time, PermanentAbout NFU Scotland:NFU Scotland is committed to promoting the interests of farming in Scotland. That means listening to our members and developing policies which are promoted to government and others of influence to make sure that Scottish farmers are allowed to operate in a fair and equitable political environment.Representing some 8,500 farmers, crofters, and other rural businesses across the country, NFU Scotland’s mission is to promote and protect the interests of its members by influencing government and the supply chain to secure a sustainable future for Scottish agriculture.About the role - Policy Manager This exciting role will see you at the heart of a cutting-edge and vibrant agricultural policy landscape.You will interact with policy makers to shape the future of Scottish agricultural policy on behalf of farmers, growers, and crofters in Scotland.As the UK leaves the EU, it is more important than ever that the changing legislative landscape is monitored and influenced to ensure that the interests of Scottish agriculture remain at the forefront of discussions.As part of our policy team:

  • You will advocate on behalf of more than 8,500 farmers, growers, and crofters
  • You will monitor, interpret, and analyse a broad variety of policy issues relating to Scottish agriculture
  • You will work with NFUS members to inform policy direction
  • You will represent and champion views within Scottish and UK Government
  • You will build new and influential relations with relevant organisation
  • About You - Policy ManagerThe role requires you to have at least three years demonstrable experience, to be a motivated self-starter, with at least three years demonstrable experience, who can distil and disseminate a variety of policy workstreams.
  • You must be able to hit the ground running, you will need to have a proven track record of negotiating and influencing others to build consensus and achieve policy objectives.
  • You must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Scottish agriculture and wider legislative processes.
  • You will possess excellent analytical skills with an ability to quickly get to grips with member engagement and be a flexible, team player who is supportive in covering for colleagues.
  • You will need to have excellent writing skills as you will be expected to write high quality reports, briefings, meeting notes, blogs, magazine, and online articles and give presentations.
  • You will need to be flexible and prepared to attend meetings out with normal working hours.
