Job Description

PETA Training and consultancy are recruiting for an Engineering operative at the following company.Alitex is a family business which started in 1952 by the Hall family, we believe in creating the very best looking Victorian glasshouses that are functional havens for plants and people. The company is in the fortunate position of having a healthy balance sheet allowing continued investment in the people, processes, research and development. All of our glasshouses are designed and manufactured in the UK.We have a strong history of recruiting and developing apprentices, we have engineering apprentices working in our machining and design areas. We want you to be part of our success story.An exciting opportunity in a hands-on working environment learning to operate machinery, manufacture mechanical assemblies and finish parts ready for painting. The role has a strong focus on building structural components for our world renown glass houses. You will have a flexible teamworking approach to work allowing us to achieve our goals.Working week:

  • Monday - Thursday 07:30 - 16:30
  • Friday 07:30 - 14:00
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Duties will include:
  • Learn how to work accordance with company safety procedures and follow Health and Safety legislation
  • Become confident identifying and dealing appropriately with any risks, hazards, hazardous situations and problems that may occur within the engineering environment within the limits of their responsibility
  • Learn how to obtain and follow the correct documentation, specifications and work instructions in accordance with time constraints and the roles and responsibilities identified for the engineering activities, extracting the necessary data/information from specification and related documentation
  • Become competent selecting and using appropriate tools, equipment and materials to carry out the engineering operation
  • Learn how to plan the mechanical manufacturing operation before they start
  • Become competent mounting and setting the required work holding devices
  • Learn how to produce individual components, sub-assemblies or completed assemblies using mechanical manufacturing techniques
  • Become competent carrying out quality checks during and after mechanical manufacturing operations
  • Learn how to contribute to the identification of possible improvements and assist implementing the company’s continuous improvement programme
  • You will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills which include oral, written, electronic
  • Become competent dealing with any problems that may occur within the manufacturing environment within the limits of their responsibility
  • Work efficiently and effectively at all times maintaining workplace organisation and minimising waste

  • Please note all applicants will be required to attend a pre-entry interview with PETA before an application can be progressed.The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £4.15 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.Please be aware that this rate changes every year on 1 April and reference should be made to the Government Website for further information.Training to be providedThroughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of skills development training will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will work towards the following qualifications:
  • You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 13 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification.
  • You will also complete the Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Technical Knowledge). The apprenticeship duration will be 15 months overall including End Point assessment
  • You will also achieve Functional Skills in Math’s and English at level 1 (if you have not already achieved C+ or a Grade 4+ in these disciplines)
