Job Description

PETA training and consultancy are recruiting for a CNC Machinist at the following company.The company is a family business which started in 1952 by the Hall family, we believe in creating the very best looking Victorian glasshouses that are functional havens for plants and people. They are in the fortunate position of having a healthy balance sheet allowing continued investment in the people, processes, research and development. All of our glasshouses are designed and manufactured in the UK.We have a strong history of recruiting and developing apprentices, we have engineering apprentices working in our machining and design areas. We want you to be part of our success story.Working week:

  • Monday - Thursday 07:30 - 16:30
  • Friday 07:30 - 14:00
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Duties will include:
  • Learn how to work in accordance with company safety procedures and follow Health and Safety legislation
  • Become competent reading and interpreting relevant data and documentation used to produce machined components
  • Learn how to plan how to complete milling operations, programming data into CNC Milling/Routing machinery
  • Become competent receiving and checking materials ensuring raw materials are available and correct using engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Learn to use a range of techniques, including applying innovative work holding arrangements utilising specialist tooling
  • Become competent selecting and setting up the tooling
  • Learn how to programming, setting and operating modern CNC equipment
  • After training you will be able to apply a range of machining strategies to increase accuracy and productivity
  • Become competent setting and adjusting the machine operating parameters to produce the work pieces to the required specification

  • 3 GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalents) to include Maths and English are essential
  • Additionally a science or engineering qualification is highly desirable
  • Any CAD/CAM experience/qualifications will be looked upon favourably

  • Things to consider:Please note all applicants will be required to attend a pre-entry interview with PETA before an application can be progressed.The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £4.15 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.Please be aware that this rate changes every year on 1 April and reference should be made to the Government Website for further information.Training to be providedThroughout the duration of the Apprenticeship you will be required to attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training. The majority of skills development training in years 2, 3 and 4 will be completed with your employer at your place of work. You will work towards the following qualifications:
  • You will be employed whilst you are completing your apprenticeship this will include 18 months of day release training at PETA Ltd where you will complete your Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence) qualification. This will include:
  • Preparing and using Manual Turning Machines
  • Preparing and using Manual Milling Machines
  • Preparing and using CNC Milling Machines
  • Preparing and using CNC Turning Machines
  • Using fitting and assembly Techniques.
  • Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawings using a CAD System
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • You will also complete the Level 2 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Technical Knowledge).
  • You will be expected to progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) delivered in the workplace by your PETA assessor. You will be day released for a further 24 months to complete a Technical certificate (Level 3) as part of your advanced apprenticeship framework. This will be the Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge).You will also achieve Functional
