Technical Surveyor (Hull) - Home basedSalary: £36,713 - £43,192 (dependent on experience)Vehicle: A vehicle will be made available to carry out your dutiesContract type: PermanentHours: Full TimeLocation description: This is role home basedInterview date: To be confirmedClosing Date: 01-05-2022We are looking for an individual as a specialist in advanced composite boat structures and coating systems, to support the Principal Surveyor to ensure that our lifeboats and launching equipment are built and maintained to the highest possible standards.You will play an important part in providing our volunteer crews with the reliable equipment they need to continue to safely save lives at sea.This is a great opportunity to take on an exciting role that offers responsibility and is both challenging and rewarding.Supporting projects at the RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole will make up much of your work drawing on your technical experience and knowledge to make the right decisions on time every time. You may also have to work in our approved external contractorsoverseeing/supporting contracts for new construction, refits and repairs for Lifeboats and launch and recovery assets.The surveying team conduct surveys annually on every All Weather Lifeboat across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. A number of surveys are also completed on station launch and recovery assets. On station surveys will make up some of your workloadand by the nature and spread of RNLI assets you will be travelling away to survey so this position will not suit anyone who finds being away from home difficult.Youre already an experienced advanced composite technician who combines first-rate technical knowledge in both modern composites and current coating systems, can conduct condition, pre refit surveys and write concise, detailed reports. This should also becombined with a good understanding boat building techniques, including fit out, systems, painting and repairs.You will be a strong project manager, capable of negotiating, reporting on and delivering potentially variable packages of work to an efficient steady state production schedule. Alongside which you will work with project stakeholders to drive continuous improvementand QMS to achieve the best outcome for the RNLI.Youll work closely with contractors, carrying out regular audits against their quality plan and approved build documentation to ensure that all RNLI specifications and contractual obligations are met. Interpretation of drawings against the physical build duringthe audit process will be an essential skill along with a proven track record in contract management.Beyond that, youll get involved in the negotiation of tenders, liaise extensively with colleagues in the Engineering Department and be the principal point of contact and driving force behind sea trials.Clearly, this is a critical role that calls for some very special qualities. The ability to communicate well with people at all levels is important, together with an assertive but tactful personality. You will be capable of working towards Chartered status,with a number of years experience in the marine industry and project management. A degree or equivalent in a technical discipline would be desirable, good organisational and IT skills are also needed, to include MS project.Since you will be travelling to sites throughout the UK and Ireland, a current clean driving licence is essential.All of the above should be carried out for the RNLI to help enable us to help save lives at sea. This should be achieved with Health and Safety aspects in mind at all times.This post requires a valid driving licence.As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institutions medical and eyesight standards.SafeguardingThe RNLI is committed to safeguarding; ensuring the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk.
