GATESHEAD HEALTH NHS FOUNDATION TRUST DIVISION OF CLINICAL SUPPORT & SCREENING SERVICESLANCASHIRE and SOUTH CUMBRIA AAA SCREENING PROGRAMME – BASED IN PRESTONAAA Screening TechnicianPart-time Band 4Working hours: Flexible between 0800-2000 Monday- SaturdayPlease note all posts are subject to an initial probationary period and successful completion of mandatory training and completion of the Diploma for Health Screeners if appropriate.The Lancashire and South Cumbria Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme covers a wide geographical area.The post holder will be employed by Gateshead Health NHS Trust but will be based at a site in Preston. The successful applicants must be prepared to travel to all of the screening sites in the Lancashire and Cumbria area.AAA Screening is a fast paced, demanding environment with the team performing in excess of 10,000 ultrasound scans per year for men aged 65 years and over. Screening Technicians work and report autonomously, challenges of the role include explaining the implications of screening, obtaining informed consent, performing ultrasound examinations and base line observations, discussing test results and providing reassurance and initial counselling when an aneurysm is identified.We are looking for a motivated, sensitive and enthusiastic individual to join the established AAA Screening Team. This role will suit applicants with a long term commitment to assisting in the delivery of screening services who are able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, the capacity to remain calm under pressure and an ability to prioritise their workload.The successful applicant will undertake ultrasound training over a 3-4 month period to ensure high standards of scanning are met in accordance with national standard operating procedures. The training includes the completion of Health Screeners Diploma and an independent assessment of ultrasound technique. No experience in ultrasound is necessary however applicants must be educated to GCSE grade A-C (English Language, Mathematics and Science are essential) and have experience of working within the healthcare sector.If an applicant already holds a recognised qualification for AAA screening they will not be required to complete the DiplomaThis post is offered on a part time basis only and shift patterns will include a mixture of 7.5 hour and 11.30 hour shifts.
