Job Description

Automation Engineer GL Education are a small (ish) business achieving big things, were on the look-out for an Automation Engineer to join us.Youll be part of a 40 strong Development team based out of Houghton-le-Spring on the Durham/Sunderland border. Test automation is an arena we are only starting to dip our toe into and so youll be part of researching, recommending and implementing a solutionthat fits our business.Our aim is to implement best practice test automation solutions across the GL product lines, these will verify the accuracy of software, data and configuration produced by the Software Development team.To succeed, you will bring with you a good understanding of testing and test automation strategies, youll be able to adapt these to build solutions fit for our products. Our products are pretty unique and youll join us just as our biggest Development projectto date has gone live, weve migrated to a new platform and have exciting plans to build on that with further product development.At GL Education, we are passionate about the role we play in supporting schools to ensure that all students reach their full potential. We do this by providing assessment solutions that help teachers learn more about their pupils, so they can find the bestway to teach them. We are the leading UK provider in what we do and growing fast internationally - at the last count we have delivered almost 50 million online tests across the globe. However, this only accounts for 1 per cent of the children in the world.Our mission is to ensure all children have the best possible start by having access to our education tools.The role:

  • Own and manage the test automation strategy including tool selection and appropriate design patterns
  • Look to achieve the maximum test coverage with the least number of automated test cases
  • Development of an extensible automation framework based on appropriate technologies that is capable of working across multiple technologies
  • Prioritise test automation development based on risk
  • Mentor junior members of the team and build their automation capabilities and knowledge
What we are looking for:
  • In depth understanding of multiple opensource and commercial automation tools
  • In depth understanding of relevant test principles and best practice
  • A self-starter, who is curious to learn and use their own initiative
  • A degree in computer science (or another numerate discipline) would be a plus
  • The ability to set and manage expectations
