Job Description

Head of FacilitiesSalary: £61,823 DOELocation: LeedsWe have been tasked with appointing a Head of Estates and Facilities to join a dynamic and vibrant Estates and Facilities department. Essentially you will support the delivery of the master-plancovering new build, refurbishment and planned/reactive maintenancedeliverable.With extensive organic growth this is a fantastic time to join a business the bucking the trend in the education sector.The OpportunityYou will report to the deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, some the key duties will include;

  • Staff management and development
  • Estates development
  • Planned and reactive programmes of works, all soft and hard FM deliverable, including statutory compliance and related Health and safety duties
You will have the responsibility of the Computer Aided Facilities Management system (CAFM) and Building Management System (BMS). You will be expected to liaise with external and internal stakeholders, suppliers contractors and consultants on a regular basis,ensuring all contracts and supplies are managed efficientlythis should be second nature to you. We are looking for someone who is experienced within the FM arena that is keen to put their stamp on things and really implement best practice and innovation.The RoleThe role will comprise of the following but is not limited to:
  • Delivery of a highly effective, professionally driven and quality Estates and Facilities functions in multi-locations
  • You will lead in the management of institutional energy and sustainability and environmental issues and be responsible from an estates and facilities perspective.
  • Driving the improvements of Hard and Soft FM deliverables including bespoke development
  • Working with the Deputy Director of Estate and Facilities, to produce detail development report and business cases to support approval for all capital development works
  • Development both new and refurbishment sites
  • Building operations both planned and reactive maintenance
  • Engineering services operations and maintenance
  • Procurement and management of utilities (e.g. water, gas, electricity, oil) via contracted services and consultants
  • Space management both internal and external
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff under their control, ensuring that the necessary skill and competency levels are in place, developed or acquired
  • To have overall responsibility for ensuring mechanical and electrical design work related to existing and new build projects, including the appraisal of contractors design drawings and that they are carried out to the current regulation and industry standards,including reactive and planned electrical works
  • Drive a carbon net zero mantra by 2030 via the implementation of innovative energy saving appliances e.g., lights, heating, Photo voltaic cells (PVCs), etc. ensuring the latest technologies are incorporated within all development project where applicable
  • Manage annual budgets/costings and allocations for multiple sites and departments
  • Regular 121s, annual PDRs
  • To deputise for the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities
  • To advise the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities on matters related to physical development of projects
  • To promote and enhance quality of site wellbeing
  • To chair a range of internal and external meetings or committees as required
  • To develop and maintain a client-centred and customer focusedapproach to the provision of all aspects of estate and facilities management
Ideal candidateOur ideal candidate will have worked in a similar discipline and FM will be second nature to you. At this stage in your career you will have managed multiple sites and have demonstrable experience with managing 3rd parties, contracts, contractors and ensuringthat the FM is within/under budget and exceeding expectations.Ideally you will be degree educated in a relevant construction related discipline, such as; Project Management, Building Surveying and/or Mechanical/Electrical. However, nothing beats real world experience! (A personality always helps as well).Further to the above you will have:
  • Excellent organisational skills and good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven experience of managing an Estates and Facilities department
  • Relevant experience in the Public sector and a good knowledge of working with financial spreadsheets and ideally AutoCAD skills would be advantageous
  • Experience of cost and value engineering of projects to meet budget demands while maintaining project deliverables
  • Well-developed knowledge of construction health and safety procedures such as CDM2015 and the ability to produce and review contractor H&S risk assessment
  • An understanding and interpretation of legislation relating to but not limited to, e.g. water hygiene, electrical, mechanical, and statutory compliance, estates and buildings and Health & Safety, Accessibility
Finally, areas of experience that are desirable in the role would be; Building Surveying, Construction Project Management, Facilities Management or M&E. Professional qualification and membership of a professional body in one of the main building disciplines,electrical or mechanical engineering (MRICS, IWFM, MIET) are certainly looked favourably on.If the above is something that is of interest to you, then click to apply!
