Job Description

Production Manager - Wigan - £40,000Recruit Mate are thrilled to bring to the marketplace this fantastic Production Manager vacancy with our award-winning Corrugated Packaging client based in Wigan.The Company:Our client aims to be the UKs leading independent, flexographic print and small format, eco-friendly corrugated cardboard box manufacturer alongside being the UKs leading online, B2C, box manufacturer offering a range of corrugated products delivered within 24 hours to their clients.This is a long established successful business and was one of the first companies in Wigan to achieve the Investors in People Award. Over the last few years our client has transformed itself from being a traditional cardboard packing facility to a forward thinking supplier to the e-commerce industry.The Production Manager role:This is a senior management position which includes the planning, co-ordinating and controlling the manufacturing process. Ensuring that products are produced safely, efficiently; that it is of the right quality, quantity, and cost; and that it is produced on time, to the satisfaction of the customer, and ensuring that direct reports are managed effectively ensuring optimum skills and potential of those are fulfilled.Being part of the Senior Management team and reporting into the Managing Director, the key responsibilities and accountabilities include:

  • Oversee the production and planning process, solving issues outside of scope of team leaders.
  • Constantly challenge the norm and look at ways to improve the production process via people, procedures and machines.
  • Ensure factory personnel are skilled, empowered and accountable.
  • Instil manufacturing principles into factory - right product, right quality at lowest cost.
  • Build closer, more effective relationship between Production and Sales via robust Sales/Ops meeting including all relevant factory management.
  • Ensure all in factory have an understanding of customer needs and demands, thus embedding a customer focussed environment.
  • Ensure quality standards being adhered to at all times via revision of quality procedure and training of such procedure.
  • Work with team leaders to implement the companys policies and goals;
  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed;
  • Work closely with H&S support to ensure a safe factory both culturally and procedurally.
  • Ensure Lean initiatives are followed and embedded within culture.
  • Ensure Planned Preventative Maintenance carried out by Engineering support.
  • Develop budgets and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring that materials, labour and equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Review the performance of Production Team, including communication of such via performance boards/screen.
  • Implement, monitor and control Smart manufacturing to help drive factory efficiencies.
  • Ensure production staff are trained to a consistently high standard.
  • Facilitate SOP (Safe Operating Procedures) documentation.
  • Facilitate development of all staff within the production arena.
  • Facilitate revision and implementation of production recruitment process.
  • Manage certifications (BRC, ISO, FSC) ensuring requirements are met for successful audits.
  • Aid further development of production strategy to help move the company forward and play your part as a member of the company management team.
  • The Production Manager:
  • You must have at least 5 years+ Production Management experience in flexo printed and plain corrugated packaging.
  • Knowledge of lean techniques
  • Production strategy knowledge (future investment)
  • HR knowledge and experience.
  • H&S management
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the business
  • Ability to get the best out of teams via sound people management.
  • Ability to seek out improvements in both process and people.
  • Proactive and able to continuously improve
  • Ability to deliver goals in line with overall business strategy
  • Ability to drive succession planning and multiskilling agenda.
  • Machine purchasing and installation experience.
  • Engineering Management (direct or indirect)
