Our extensive in-house processing portfolio in combination with our expertiseenables us to deliver cost efficient metal solutions and high-quality steel products.As a pioneer of digital transformation in the steel and metal industry we continuously strive to add value to our customers by investing into digital technologies and introducing innovative eProcurement solutions.We are passionate about sustainability and aim to transform our industry by playing an active role in building a sustainable future for our employees, customers, community and future generations.Role overviewThis is a key role within ASD LTD driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, and asset utilisation through deployment of lean manufacturing, best in class supply chain and logistics operations.Responsible for the Exeter site day to day operations, the position holder will be able to combine a hands on and strategic operational skills to effectively engage and lead the Exeter site team in order to achieve financial budgets, whilst ensuring health& safety of employees, controlling costs and meeting the needs of all customers. Always operating fully within compliance rules. Working closely with the commercial teams to facilitate their targets. Responsibility for approximately 30 employees (4 directreports), and an operational budget expenditure of up to £2 million.Key responsibilities will include

  • To manage the business to achieve financial budget and stretch targets.
  • Overall responsibility for safe and efficient day to day operation of a site.
  • To ensure that all employees are effectively managed within the framework of ASD’s policies and procedures; particularly relating to health and safety, training, absence management, performance management, discipline and compliance.
  • Monitor efficiency of operation and drive performance improvement. Sets SMART objectives in line with strategic goals and ensures targets are achieved by tracking improvement actions and relevant KPI’s.
  • Manage asset utilisation, production planning and capacity management processes
  • Drive elimination of waste to improve Quality yield, Machine downtime and production losses
  • Effective control and management of stock and warehouse picking and despatch processes
  • Ensures customer requirements are satisfied by making sure that activities are correctly prioritised and resourced.
  • To develop employees and form a succession plan for the business.
  • Continuously measure performance against objectives and ensure that team members are appraised.
  • To actively participate in the wider KMUK group projects and forums to ensure shared best practice
Relevant experience will include:
  • Is an effective change manager and is able to identify opportunities for improvement and lead these through to delivering bottom line benefits.
  • Must have a good knowledge of employment, health, safety and environmental legislation and ISO management systems.
  • Can demonstrate the successful leadership, training and development needs of a complex high performing team consistently achieving its objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experienced in deployment of lean manufacturing methodologies including flow and bottleneck management.
  • Must have excellent production and/or metal processing knowledge.
  • Must have experience of budgeting, cost control and financial implications.
  • Must have knowledge of production planning, capacity management, processing capabilities and stock control.
  • Experience of agreeing and evaluating performance targets and measures.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and Project management skills
  • Must be computer literate and able to use MS excel and word and ERP systems.
