Job Description

We are looking for a qualified Nurse to join one of our flagship residential schools set in beautiful countryside near Disley in on the Cheshire / Derbyshire border. The post holder will be joining our passionate and established clinical team. This will appeal to people who are looking for a role without shifts as the core hours are between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Responsibilities and Duties1. General Care and Support

  • Providing levels of care and support appropriate to the general needs of the children and those as outlined in their Statements of Special Educational Needs and their Care Plans
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the children in accordance with High Peak Schools Management of Behaviour Policy and safeguarding their health and safety.
  • Establishing appropriate professional relationships with the children in his / her care.
  • Displaying levels of personal behaviour which will provide an appropriate model for the children in his / her care.
  • Providing a stimulating environment, conducive to the educational, personal and social development of the children.
  • 2.Health and Welfare
  • Ensuring all the medical needs of young people are catered for and routine appointments and check ups are maintained for residential children and support parents and carers of day pupils where appropriate
  • Ensuring young peoples health records are up to date, including routine check ups such as Dental and Optician are facilitated. Also ensuring any outstanding vaccinations or other health issues are followed up with the relevant school vaccine service.
  • Act as Designated Medication Lead for the site. Ensuring that all current legislation is followed in relation to the handling, recording, safekeeping, administering and disposal of medication, including the oversight/ training and ongoing observations of staff authorised to administer medication.
  • Ensuring medication is appropriately prepared for young people going home, and ensure a regular supply is sourced in line with the prescribers local policy.
  • Lead on the first aid concerns as appropriate for the School Nurse, ensuring a good supply and audit of the sites first aid supplies. Oversee that all medical supplies and First Aid boxes are well maintained.
  • Keeping relevant staff informed of individual health needs.
  • Participating in the safeguarding of all the children and ensuring that High Peak Schools Child Protection Policy is adhered to.
  • Promoting and ensuring the general health, safety and welfare of the children adheres to High Peak schools; Health and Safety Policy, contributing to High Peak Schools Risk Assessment programme. Promoting health education throughout the school.
  • Offer support and guidance and where requested lead health projects around areas such as smoking cessation, drug and alcohol misuse, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. Via key work, resources and class sessions.
  • Offer sexual health advice, working in partnership with local area programmes
  • Where required act as Designated Safeguarding Person and/or Lead in the absence of the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Offer guidance and support to staff when setting Health Objectives in relation to Key Work / Tutorial Work.
  • Liaise with third party MDT as required such as Community Paediatrics, CAMHS, GP, local hospitals keeping/maintaining strong and transparent relationships.
  • Work to support the development and implementation of Dialectical Behaviour Theory across the setting; supporting and coaching staff to develop skills and practice; and as part of the clinical team supporting the delivery of DBT to the children and young people within the setting.
  • Perform Looked After Children medicals at the request of the placing authority.
  • Complete the ligature knife audit ensuring the local policy is adhered to.
  • 3. Assessments and Reports
  • Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and reviews relating to individual children including School Reviews and Looked After Children Reviews.
  • Work with local Looked After Children health teams and LAC nurses to ensure the routine and Initial health assessments take place.
  • Analyse figures and produce reports on aspects such as self-harm and hospital attendance.
  • Work with the Clinical Team to implement pathways for ASD, ADHD and be a key player in the creation and moderation of self harm plans
  • Hold a case co-ordinator role in line with the ARC therapeutic model inline with all the members of the clinical team
  • 4.Buildings, Equipment and Facilities
  • Ensuring the fabric of buildings is safeguarded and maintained to high standards.
  • Ensuring equipment is used properly and safely and stored in appropriate ways.
  • Reporting faults and repairs whenever necessary.
  • 5. Administration
  • Participating in administrative and organisational tasks related to the above duties
  • Attending meetings of staff and pupils under the direction of senior staff.
  • 6.Other Duties
  • Participating in the development of whole School policies.
  • Undertaking other such duties of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Leadership Team.
  • To adhere at all times to the standards of conduct, performance and ethics set down in The Code published by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Including being current with an active PIN number and in date with Revalidation.
  • 7.Training and Development
  • Participating in arrangements for his / her induction, supervision, training and development.
  • Undertaking appropriate training/learning activities in order to maintain registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), this is to include Revalidation. Ensure adequate number of training hours are completed to support CPD module of Revalidation.
  • Reviewing his / her own methods of care and support.
  • Providing training and advice for High Peak School staff to support children with healthcare needs, such as first aid awareness, administration of medication, asthma and epilepsy. Within clinical boundaries and knowledge.Support the development of the setting by completing a regul
