Job Description

We are delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an independent, family firm of house builders in North Somerset. Responsible for managing costings, Site Managers and ultimately ensuring projects are delivered within budgetand to a high standard. You will oversee various build projects including high quality housing, industrial, infrastructure, groundworks and refurbs.This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to move away from a corporate setting and work with a company who pride themselves on delivering high quality work.If you hold high standards and want to be part of an organisation where standards, excellence and pride are truly valued, this could be the opportunity for you!Key responsibilities will include:

  • Estimating quantities, costs and time scales for material and labour
  • Preparing contract documents
  • Tendering for materials and labour in cooperation with the Site Manager
  • Identifying and weighing up commercial risks
  • Assigning work to subcontractors, including labour, carpenters etc
  • Valuing completed work, managing budgets and overseeing payments in cooperation with the Accounts Department
  • Ensuring projects meet legal and quality standards
  • Advising on the maintenance costs of specific buildings
  • Submitting regular budget reports
  • Following building regulations and health and safety
  • Support and manage the Site Managers to make sure projects are delivered to a high quality and on time
  • Liaise with architects and building control to gain high standards and approval
The right person for the role will:
  • Previous experience of working as a Quantity Surveyor with residential house builds
  • Experience of effectively managing teams
  • Up to date knowledge of health and safety, environmental and building legislation.
  • Ability to manage and track costs
  • Works effectively to deadlines and competently works on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience dealing with sub-contractors and suppliers to order materials securing best price
  • Good administration skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Take pride in your work and hold team to the same levels of pride
  • Drive a culture of excellence to ensure a continued strong reputation in the local market
