Principle Researcher Hertfordshire Salary Competitive An innovative organisation in the pharmaceutical industry are looking for a Principle Researcher to join their neurology focused business unit based in Hertfordshire. This is a lab based role and the successful candidate will have a variety of lab based skills. Versatility within the lab is key for this role as you will work across a number of projects. This individual will work across the development and utilization of enzymatic and complex cell-based assays for drug identification, pharmacological profiling and compound mechanism-of-action determination. The Role: Experimental design and implementation, including interpretation and presentation of data, to drive drug development progression.Development and validation of complex cell-based assay systems and analytical approaches, primarily using patient-derived and stem cell-derived, cells.Close working with project biologists and medicinal chemists to provide high quality hit identification, structure activity relationship and mechanism-of-action data.Management of external studies (e.g. using contract research organisations) to utilise external expertise/resource to complement internal activities.Presentation of concepts, data and approaches to internal and external parties.Critique of wider project data and involvement in shaping project direction and strategy.Supervision of industry placement undergraduate students, as required.Contribution to communal logistical or house-keeping tasks, as appropriate.Requirements: B.Sc./M.Sc. with appropriate laboratory experience in a life science discipline. Knowledge and experience of working within the pharmaceutical/biotech/CRO industry on enzymatic and cell-based assay development, pharmacological assessment and interpretation of results is essential. Hands-on working knowledge of a wide range of in vitro biochemical and cellular and molecular techniques. Knowledge and experience of developing cell-based in vitro systems to assess complex pharmacology.Knowledge of enzyme/receptor pharmacology theory and practice.The ability to design, schedule, execute and interpret experimental studies using complex biological systems, e.g. iPSC neuronal cell systems, for compound mechanism-of-action studies.Experience of working with benchtop automation and liquid handling to aid high-quality data generation. Also, of working with a variety of laboratory equipment (plate readers, live cell and high-content imaging systems)Familiarity with laboratory information management systems to manage biological/chemical inventories and workflows, would be preferred.Familiarity with statistical/data visualization apps such as GraphPad Prism, Tibco Spotfire etc. If this sounds like the ideal next role, then please apply online.
