They are a not-for-profit organisation whereby all profits are reinvested into local community services.Due to an internal restructure, our client is seeking an experienced assistant accountant to support the Head of Finance in the newly created finance department. This role will be responsible for overseeing a ledger clerk and assisting this role where necessarybut will also report directly into the Head of Finance.This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is either part qualified and wishes to develop their career or someone who is qualified by experience and is seeking a new challenge in a friendly, people-oriented organisation, where you can truly add valueand make an impact.How you’ll spend your time:

Assisting with month end - accounts to trial balance
VAT returns (including partial VAT)
Good ledger experience and understanding
Accruals, prepayments, month end journals
ONS returns
Assisting Head of Finance with some analysis work
Banks recs and possibly maintaining the cashbook
Manage stock takes including liaising with facilities managers to resolve any queries
Be involved with maintaining the PO system and embedding the new system (February implementation)
Working closely with the Head of Finance who will support and mentor you, giving you more responsibility as and when you are ready for it
