Job Description

Successful & well run Alternative Provision on the Harlow, Essex is currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH). Full time and long term post to commence in January 2021!The learners who attend this Alternative Provision have been predominantly diagnosed with SEMH and Complex needs. As there are a lot of behavioural challenges with these children and young people, it is important that the successful SEN teaching Assistant/ Behaviour Mentor/ SEN TA /Learning Mentor / HLTA/ Youth Worker / Child Support Worker has great experience with SEN pupils (ieCAMHS/ SEMH/ Complex Needs / ASD/ ADHD/ Challenging Behaviour). Additionally the successful SEN Teaching Assistant must have worked in either a PRU/ Alternative provision / SEN School or Mainstream School (with lots of SEN pupils).This long term post would be working with young people and secondary aged children on a 1:1 basis & small groups. To thrive in this type of post, you will be resilient, empathetic, proactive, dedicated and able to build a strong rapport with young people and children at KS3 & KS4 levels.

  • Experience working with SEN children (ieCAMHS/ SEMH/ ASD/ ADHD/ ODD/ Challenging Behaviour)
  • You must have worked in a similar role in either a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU/ Alternative Provision/ SEN School / mainstream school (with lots of SEN pupils)
  • Must have worked as either a SEN TA/ Behaviour Teaching Assistant/ Learning Mentor HLTA/ Behaviour Mentor or LSA
  • You have worked with children on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
  • You are able to successfully de-escalate challenging behaviour & able to build a strong rapport with young people
  • In date DBS with the update service
  • You live close in easy commutable distance to Harlow, Essex
