Job Description

Motability is a national charity. Our purpose is to help people with disabilities with their personal mobility.Motability sets the strategic policies and direction of the Motability Scheme, which is operated by Motability Operations Ltd and oversees its performance to ensure that it meets the needs of disabled people. Since 1977, the Motability Scheme has provided over four and a half million vehicles to help people with disabilities and their families to enjoy the road to freedom’.Motability has an endowment of ca. £1bn and is in the process of investing this for the long term to fund grant programmes to address mobility for people with disabilities. Motability has 170 staff, principally case managers administering grants to some 26,000 individuals per annum. Motability has a substantial programme of research underway to inform its future priorities.We are looking for a Financial Controller to take the lead for the financial accounts and operations function and to provide high quality support to the finance team.Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the year-end process and production of the Annual Report and Accounts and related external audit process;
  • Being responsible for overall on-going improvements of financial governance within Motability including internal control, balance sheet reconciliations, configuration of financial systems, legal compliance and production of financial information;
  • Overall control of the transactional processing staff within Finance; ensuring seamless integration of data from other systems, robust processes and timeliness of data processing;
  • Communicating complex financial information and building rapport with a range of stakeholders.
    • The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with experience of the UK charity or not for profit sector, with advanced knowledge of SORP and charity VAT. You will have produced statutory accounts, financial reports. You will have robust technical skills and demonstrable commercial acumen. You will have excellent leadership and communication skills, able to challenge, influence and delegate.
