Job Description

National Express are looking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager, to manage one of our Garages within the West Midlands. The successful candidate will lead, manage, motivate and engage our operation teams whilst ensuring adherence to global standards, company policies and standardoperating procedures. They will also effectively plan, lead and manage all aspects of the operational provision at the depot in order to deliver a consistently reliable, safe, high quality and punctual service in line with specified targets, contractual obligationsand commercial objectives.What youll do:

  • Lead, manage, motivate and engage our Driver Managers, to include all aspects of their management, including welfare, wellbeing and support.
  • Ensuring the operation teams are led, managed and motivated by the Driver Managers, including oversight of their safety, performance and wellbeing.
  • Reporting directly to the Deputy Operations Director and being accountable for all aspects of the depots performance.
  • Improve Driver retention by reducing turnover through strong, positive engagement with our Drivers and operational support teams.
  • Implement local budgets, ensuring effective cost control and realistic financial forecasting.
  • Develop effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, attending any meetings as required.
  • Lead and support through effective communication via the daily stand up and weekly problem solving sessions with your team in order to review prior performance, today’s plan and targeting improvements to make demand visible.
  • Embedding the principles of the OPERATE framework and instilling a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and Performance colleagues to ensure peak vehicle requirement (PVR) is achieved. Identifying and implementing solutions where targets are not being met, operating as one team. Ensure all of our people are aware of theirobligations, the role of DVSA and the need to escalate any DVSA checks in addition to the auditing of defect reporting such as VCR compliance and 10% quality checks.
  • Ensure compliance of Drivers working hours, health and safety regulations and all company policies and procedures. Ensuring that you keep up to date with all relevant legislation on changes
  • Undertaking the role of nominated transport manager (NTM) for your locations and being named on the Operators Licence.
  • Provide effective oversight and be accountable for the day to day performance of all key systems i.e Tableau, Driver Risk Profile, DriveCam and define, determine and deploy decisions based on the data to develop a positive outcome.
  • Ensure and be accountable for effective security measures to prevent internal and external revenue fraud through strict adherence of relevant standards and to monitor the performance of electronic equipment i.e checking data and CCTV systems.
What youll need:Desirable
  • Working in a unionised environment
  • IOSH Health & Safety qualification (Training will be provided)
  • Transport CPC
  • NEBOSH Health & Safety qualifica on (Training will be provided)
  • Good understanding of the Passenger Transport Sector
Essential
  • Certificate of Professional Competence in passenger transport
  • Experience in managing and motivating a high performing team
  • Good IT Skills
  • A flexible approach to hours of work as this role requires shift working and flexibility to respond to operational needs, including attendance at out of hours meetings.
