Job Description

Project Design Engineer (Special Purpose Machinery) £Competitive plus Benefits West Midlands Prototype Build, Design, Development, Project, CAD, Special Purpose Machinery, Commissioning A Project Design Engineer (Special Purpose Machinery) is required with knowledge of design, development and project delivery of special purpose machinery to meet customer requirements. Candidates with experience of designing, developing and project managing the installation of special purpose machinery or process equipment would be well received..Due to continued growth this niche supplier of bespoke special purpose equipment and machinery based in the West Midlands requires a proactive, hands on Project Design Engineer who can lead the development of machinery from initial concept through design, development and onto customer sign off (cradle to grave). As a Project Design Engineer you will be required to:

  • Generate job cost estimates for use in sales quotes to customers
  • Working directly with customers on technical issues
  • Generate prototype models of new designs, products and components
  • The primary role is to evolve current product designs to meet immediate and longer-term market and customer specific needs while enhancing product range
  • Generate 3D models from existing hand drawings and 2D AutoCAD designs
  • Create and manage product BOMs, operations and job record cards
  • Managing projects to budget, costs, and time
  • Managing project progress and associated purchasing requirements
  • Support customers by troubleshooting technical issues of a mechanical nature & co-ordinating the electrical interfaces (Not expected to be electrically qualified)
  • Progressing unresolved technical issues to suppliers and sub-contractors
    • As a Project Design Engineer you will have the following:
  • To take total responsibility for Engineering design decisions and technical delivery
  • Strong CAD (Solidworks) design experience, specifically in Machinery, inc FEA
  • Appreciation of Electrical control requirements and integration with Mechanical components
  • End to end process experience: Estimating, outline design, detailed design, Production assembly, test, support & troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and CAM
  • DFMA and running of design review meetings
  • Detailed experience with ERP/MRP systems generating/managing BOMs
