Job Description

Begin a rewarding career at Bradley Woodlands in Grimsby as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and be part of a team that provides care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in society.Bradley Complex Care provides a specialist service for men and women with complex needs who may have a primary diagnosis of learning disability, mental health issue or personality disorder.As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will assist in delivering therapeutic care under the supervision of a qualified professional. You will attend monthly peer supervision with other TAs, as well as monthly group supervision/training with relevantprofessionals to enhance your skills and knowledge.You will be a part of an environment where there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and CPD, where you will enjoy a comprehensive induction, regular supervision and will have continuous access to a range of training opportunities to move your career forward.Your responsibilities will include:

  • To carry out initial communication screening assessment
  • To carry out ongoing communication assessment and therapy
  • To provide individual and group interventions
  • To design, make and provide resources to support communication needs
  • To complete initial dysphagia screening assessment, following the completion of assistant practitioner competencies
  • To liaise closely with the qualified SLT regarding ongoing dysphagia care plans
  • To provide advice to staff regarding the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative modified diet scales as and when required (upon completion of assistant practitioner competencies)
  • To contribute to care plans, report writing and other administrable duties
  • To attend meetings as a representative of SLT if required to feed back to the regional SLT
  • To contribute to training schedules
To be successful in this role, youll need:
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Time management / ability to prioritise
  • Ability to co-ordinate, motivate and engage patients
  • Ability to support patients in a manner that is calm and enabling
  • Form effective working relationships with all staff in the ward environment
  • Good English skills, an A Level or degree level English is desirable but not essential
  • Willingness and ability to undertake training as identified, to enable the post holder to carry out the duties of the post
  • Experience of conducting relationships with a wide variety of professionals, colleagues and external agencies
  • Ability to design communication resources and interventions with regular supervision from the regional SLT
  • Experience of managing a changing workload / maintaining a flexible approach
  • Experience of working as a therapy assistant is desirable
  • Team working skills
  • Some experience of Speech and Language Therapy is desirable
