Milk Education are working in partnership with a Secondary School based in Greenwich who are seeking to appoint a BLS (British Sign Language) Teaching assistant. The School is seeking to appoint, as soon as possible, to compliment the work currently undertakenby the Centre for the Deaf. The skills required for the role include excellent communication and organisation, as well as being able to support in mainstream classes in a calm and professional manner. The right person will be accountable to the Head of Centre.Duties and Responsibilities• To plan and deliver effectively a British Sign Language curriculum up to Signature Level 2 (or higher) for deaf and hearing pupils according to the educational and communication needs of the pupils assigned to you in a class, group, team teaching situationor on an individual basis.• To plan and deliver effectively a British Sign Language curriculum up to Signature Level 2 (or higher) for parents and staff, including staff from mainstream partnership schools.• To provide a positive deaf role model.• To contribute to the development of the BSL Primary and Secondary curriculum, including assessment• To follow the schools procedures for planning and assessment, keeping accurate records.• Small classes to support staff and create a safe environment for all.Requirements of BSL Teaching Assistant;• Experience working with children and young people with hearing impairments• Personal interests in supporting children and young people with special educational needs• A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a can-do attitude and is willing to learn• British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 minimum• A team player and has great communication skills• Being able to build good working relationships with students and staffIf you are a Level 2 BSL qualified Teaching Assistant with experience of supporting students with Hearing Impairments, please apply immediately!
