Job Description

Strive Supply Chain are a leading management recruitment consultancy, specialising in Supply Chain, Production, Planning, Logistics, Transport & Warehouse Operations, please visit our website or join us on twitter at @strivellp for further vacancies and information.Our client is a leading 3PL in the UK and we are delighted to assist them in their search for a Group Transport Manager at their flagship site in Greater Manchester.Reporting into the Head of Transport, the Group Transport Manager is responsible for maintaining continual and effective control of the Network transport team by directly managing the build of the transport plan, and the execution of that plan. You will provide advice and guidance on all aspects of transport operational activities and opportunities, promoting "best practice" in both an operational and commercial capacity.Duties and Responsibilities as Group Transport Manager:

  • To provide direct assistance to the Head of Transport and be able to step into the role in a supporting capacity as needed.
  • To provide support through a breadth of knowledge to peers within transport team, and other departments and depots.
  • To work with the various departments to identify areas of opportunity for enhanced optimisation, efficient running, reduction of empty mileage, increased load fill and utilisation of equipment.
  • To provide strong arguments for any changes within the Transport operation, backed by solid evidence gained from a wide spectrum of information.
  • Working with the depot based transport operations to ensure the right balance of resources to drive efficiency, delivering class leading service and financial performance
  • To review daily performance reports and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • To identify areas of opportunity for enhanced optimisation, efficient running, reduction of empty mileage, increased load fill and utilisation of equipment.
  • To develop and nurture subcontract relationships, drive performance reviews and strategic partnerships.
  • To develop, audit and review reporting on all aspects of operations to support departmental performance.
    • The Candidate:
  • Proven experience of national planning, optimising a multi-site national network
  • Strong leader with proven understanding of Operational & Commercial value, sound experience in similar Transport Management capacity
  • Tenacious, managing issues through to completion under own motivation for success
  • Strong understanding of market and sector position (suppliers/competitors)
  • Commercial awareness and numeracy understanding
  • IT literacy and the ability to handle and analyze data to aid delivery of value
  • The ability to manage change across a network environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team, as well as manage people
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Driver of best practice across all departments
