Job Description

Job IntroductionThe Engineering Manager Asset Protection role is responsible for the management and delivery of design assessments of the tunnelling impacts on third party assets, identifying mitigation solutions and following the relevant 3rd party and HS2 assurance process.The 3rd party assets stakeholders are principally NR and TfL relating impacted bridges, retaining walls. stations and other track assets. There are many buildings impacted including some listed buildings and heritage assets both of which follow their ownassurance processes.The role is diverse in terms of managing external consultants that are undertaking the assessments and mitigation designs, as well as the liaison with the asset owners and coordination with the SCS permanent works Design Managers, Technical Assurance Engineers,and the I&M delivery teams.The position works closely with and reports to the senior Engineering Manager (GMA/Asset Protection) and provides support to the Senior I&M Manager responsible for the Instrumentation and Monitoring, and part of a team of engineering managers in Area Central.Role ResponsibilityKey responsibilitiesThis role will principally cover the following areas:Engineering Management GMA

  • Assess and select mitigation measures for related 3rd party assets affected by ground movement, collaborate with designers, specialists, third parties and delivery teams to identify most appropriate solutions
  • Through package managing specific works, and with the team, identify opportunities to innovate and rationalise mitigation measures, assessing and allocating mitigation measures into work / no work options.
  • Manage the delivery of assurance deliverable for the resultant mitigation design from stakeholder acceptances to HS2 acceptance (L3 certification).
  • Coordinating condition surveys, reviewing inspections for assessments and other survey input
  • Review GMAs with special focus on assumptions and crosscheck against assumption and risk register, to confirm they meet with requirements and approve or advise accordingly
  • Sifting of mitigation design in close coordination with Engineering Managers (Tunnel and Civil)
  • Coordinate with I&M Coordinator should mitigation measure require additional monitoring
  • Reviewing the programme and document delivery trackers and provide the planners the Cl 32 updates for the GMA works.
  • Manage procurement of mitigation design specialists and others for independent checking of designs.
  • Support the delivery team responsible for the installation of mitigation measures including planning, production of method statements, possessions,
  • Coordinating survey input to survey programme, identifying if additional surveys are required
  • Ensuring appropriate action is identified in response to ground movement and/or damage to 3rd party assets, including utilities, sensitive buildings, and rail infrastructure
  • Lead regular technical and managerial meetings with specialist, design, construction monitoring teams of both contractor and client
  • Ensure Temporary Works design briefs refer to related Ground Movement Assessments (GMAs) and solutions address requirements
  • Assist in production of any GMAs required for temporary works
