We welcome applications for a Principal Clinical Scientist vacancy to join a team of 7 Consultant Staff and 9 Clinical Scientists within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow. The successful applicant will support the Clinical Biochemistry service across the South Glasgow Sector.The QEUH is the site for all acute metabolic referrals within Scotland. This is supported by the Metabolic Laboratory within Biochemistry offering a wide range of specialist investigations including amino acids, organic acids, acylcarnitines, porphyrins and lysosomal enzymes. This is a highly specialised area requiring advanced knowledge and training in the area of Inborn Errors of Metabolism. Clinical Scientists are vital for the development and validation of these complex specialised methods as well as clinical interpretation of results, enabling the diagnoses of rare metabolic diseases. This includes referrals from the Newborn Screening Laboratory which require analysis and interpretation in a timely manner to confirm or exclude a diagnosisYou will be expected to participate in all aspects of the department including reporting, clinical liaison, research and development, teaching and audit.You will have advanced specialist knowledge and interpretive skills. For appointment at AfC 8a will require you to have relevant Clinical Biochemistry experience, be HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist and an MSc or equivalent in Clinical Biochemistry and FRCPath Part 1. Consideration will be given to appoint under AfC annex 21 for candidates who are HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist but who have yet to attain the written FRCPath examination but are actively working towards it. (2 year training post).
