Post: consultant respiratory physican with an interest in pleural dISEASEBase: queen elizabeth university hospital Applications are invited for a new Consultant post which will be based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The successful candidate will join an established team of respiratory consultants, two of whom specialise in pleural disease. The consultant will play a key role in the operation of the Glasgow Pleural Disease Unit and the Macmillan Scottish Mesothelioma Network. The consultant will be responsible (with colleagues) for the care of both inpatients and outpatients with a range of pleural diseases. They will also provide care for general respiratory inpatients at QEUH (including on-call duties), outpatients with Lung Cancer at Gartnavel General Hospital and have responsibility for a respiratory outpatient clinic at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock.By joining the Glasgow Pleural Disease Unit (GPDU), the post offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop or continue a sub-speciality interest in pleural disease, thoracic malignancy and particularly Mesothelioma. The successful candidate will join a department with an active research programme including established streams related to diagnostic and predictive biomarkers, novel imaging tools, interventional clinical trials and early Mesothelioma disease biology. The department has a strong academic background and close links to the University of Glasgow, the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, the CRUK-Glasgow Clinical Trials Unit and the Wolfson-Wohl Translational Cancer Research Centre. The GPDU is supported by a Mesothelioma clinical nurse specialist and four clinical/clinical research fellows.Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview. You should have extensive training in general respiratory medicine and an interest in pleural disease/thoracic malignancy is preferable. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
